No, that would be Chilton and Palmer.

Sauber currently has the ambition (or illusion) to move up the grid again next season. Caterham and Marussia (as Manor GP) would be happy to just be there. Having Simona would generate the extra buzz around the team and hopefully attract a few sponsors willing to jump on the "only woman driver" bandwagon.

Sauber are as good as dead, and with two inexperienced drivers they will not move up anymore.

thats why I added "(or illusion)" to my comment

Shouldn't that be delusion?

yeah, that might be right. In Dutch we use the word illusion for it but you are probably right.

Nasr could be the new Razia, but Banco do Brasil already paid him some FP1 this year, his drive is quite safe next year. He only must stay out of trouble

The thing with Simona is we don't know 1) how quick she was and 2) how much money she was bringing. It's clear she had some backing but if she was shit slow that's going to outweigh it. It's always a balance for F1 teams - I'm sure Sauber could have found drivers who'd pay more (they tested Roy Nissany and Adderly Fong a couple of weeks ago) but if they're going to be 5 seconds off the pace it's not worth it. Thankfully that's why Teixeira and Tahinci got no further than tests

It was a pretty rapid fall - think it was only a few weeks after she tested that it came out that she wasn't in contention for a race seat any more. Despite her good results in America, there's a chance she was just really slow in the test, which would be a shame but no different to the many other good drivers who have suffered the same fate

maybe not, going by their big improvement in COTA, already ;) btw, I guess English is the only language in which something like "illusion" won't mean "delusion". But, looking up for it, it kind does:
delusion n (hallucination) , (mistaken idea)
illusion n (magic trick), ([sth] not real)

Sad to see people like this Nasr paydriver take away another seat from a bigger talent. I heard the deal is for 2 years which is kind of a travesty tbh.

Simona ran out of money about a month ago. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Overreactions ITT...

Felipe Nasr, ex-FBMW and ex-British F3 Champion, winner at each level of the junior ladder... yeah, totally untalented and now labelled a mere pay driver. What was Sutil? What is Ericsson? Same for most of the F1 grid...

According to John cooper and others sauber now has contracts with 4 drivers to race for them. Sutil, cd Garde, Ericsson and nasr. Could become a nice legal mess over there.

Doesn't Sirotkin have a deal too? Would make 5

In other news, seems as if Aston Clinton was the place to be for fireworks last night: https://twitter.com/AussieGrit/status/5 ... 6301179907

I don't necessarily agree, I think he is one of the more reliable drivers in GP2.

Having a contract to race is meaningless if certain conditions have been met by both parties.

Can't think of an appropriate place to ask this so it'll go here as this has a captive audience

Watching Argentina 96 and Jonathan Palmer has remarked that for the first lap after the safety car came in, the drivers could not overtake. Was this actually the rule in the 90s or is he just wrong/confused/drunk?
