I still saw more drivers racing against others in this race than I ever did during the pre-Pirelli era, when virtually all the passing was in the pits.

Fermani2. Go back and watch Hungary 2004. No race will ever manage to be shitty than that excuse for a race. The Bridgestone era had plenty of woeful races. Heck even 3 years back in 2010 had far too many races of utter tedium.

Not the most exciting but as an Alonso fan happy to see him back into the Championship hunt. Still 17 behind Vettel though. Monaco should be wacky races should the Mercedes manage to qualify on the front row.

Webber's shitty starts as a predictable as Alonso's good ones. Bianchi.

That's interesting. It's because of that metal strip that it looks like the tyres got an issue. It's a standard puncture but that stops it from going flat and coming off.

Alonso would have had a complete puncture without it.

A quote from the man in your avatar about it being like driving on egg shells and not really being able to race, sums it up pretty well unfortunately...

So did neither of you (or Vettel and Schumacher for that fact) notice what Alonso and Ferrari (plus Massa) did? That pretty much conclusively proves the point you're both trying to make wrong.

I didn't realize we were only to focus on 2 cars out of the entire grid. My bad. Yes you're right there was racing. Thanks to the Ferrari's for saving us :)

Paul Hembery ‏@PaulHembery 18s
We aim for 2-3 pit stops. Today was too many, we got it wrong, too aggressive. We will make changes, probably from Silverstone.

Races will suck even more from Silverstone on then :flag:

Have a think about what you're complaining about, which I understand to be the fact that you don't believe you can use the Pirelli tyres to push hard lap after lap, race other, etc... but instead have to conserve and just drive slowly.

Today Ferrari did the opposite, pushed hard lap after lap and therefore made extra stop as a consequence. Alonso finished over 30 seconds up the road compared to Vettel.

It doesn't matter how many cars did this alternate strategy, one is enough to make all the naysayers about Pirelli tyre conservation being a problem look utterly foolish.

Should get his team to sort the car out then so he can push. Every team has the same tyres, if others are able to go faster then they must have done better with the car. It is not all about the drivers remember.

Although I do wonder if they aren't a bit too far to the degradable side.

Seem intent to fully check over Alonso's car, make sure it is legal.

Actually it does matter. But I guess that makes me and several others look utterly foolish for wanting to see more than 2 cars on the grid be able to race without prematurely wearing out their tires. Oh well, glad to see that at least Paul Hembery acknowledges it. As long as he gets it, I'm fine with looking utterly foolish in your important eyes ;)

People will moan even more. As they did in 07-08 when we knew the winner after the first pit-stops of the race, as they did in 2005, as they'd do right after Dijon 79.

I do like that whole "it's confusing for the fans when there's 4 stops" comment.

Because obviously, we understand the Coanda exhaust, the coke bottle effect, DDRS, wing stalling etc yet we're not advanced enough to remember how many stops everyone makes.

Can't they [Horner] just come out and say "Fucking tyres, fewer stops would help us"...

Post subject:  Re: Gran Premio de España

It's not confusing for the fans, but it is worse for the fans. We had the possibility of having a 5 stopper.

But the problem isn't the number of pit stops, it's the fact that the drivers are cruising. As Brundle pointed out, there has always been conservation in some form in F1. Whether it's fuel, or reliability, and now tyres. But it's gone way beyond that and we have entire races where you can't even get close to a proper race pace. It is now faster to drive around slowly so the tyres don't die.

I don't want the tyres to be made harder just so Red Bull will do better (even though everyone is happily ignoring that Mercedes would benefit by FAR the most on the grid), but I do think this is taking the piss now. Ignore DRS and KERS and silly wing shapes and whatever - I think Pirelli are responsible for the fantastic turn around in F1 action levels. But I think they've gone too far now and it needs to come back a bit. Hard tyres should not be requiring 4 or 5 stop strategies and low speed runs.

The hard tyres were made softer because last year after the summer break we even saw 1 stop races. I think they should just keep these compounds they have, because later in the year the teams will understand the tyres 100% again and we will get fewer stops (but still have 2 to 3 and not just 1 stop)
