I enjoyed the 1983 review, but it was cringeworthy. 1997 still stands out as my favourite. Oh as well as Clive James' efforts. 1993 was pretty poor, as was 1992.

Further to what Phil said in an earlier post, I also felt that the 1997 review definitely told the best season story. Whereas many of the rest just felt like a set of highlights package put toegther.

In many ways then the BBC review was a bit better than the official one then, in that it cost a lot less and it dared to include practice and qualifying incidents. Even mentioned the trouble in Bahrain too.
And it had snippits of Ben Edwards live commentary rather than narration :p

I expect Sky's team by team ones might have been even more better and in depth too but I didn't get to see them....

Where can one get hold of this BBC review?

Famous motorsport torrent sites that must not be mentioned, probably.

It was broadcast over Christmas, not released as a DVD

Jackie Stewart having a go at the FIA for been disorganized over the yellow flag non-incident with Vettel at Brazil.
http://www.cityam.com/sport/f1-disorgan ... sir-jackie

Don't agree with him there as there was nothing for the FIA to even look into. It only became the issue it did because people managed to miss the man waving the green flag & posted video's on YouTube which made Ferrari feel the need to make an issue of it.

Not as if we all saw the footage live on race day & the FIA just sat around for a few days trying to work out what had happened.

1998 was a dull season?

OK it rested solely on Micheal Schumacher dragging an inferior car into a fight with the Mclarens (ahh, who are we kidding, just Mika...) but I loved it at the time.

The ultimate battle of fast but fragile car vs slow but reliable car with a faster driver...
(Not that I think Mika was bad, just that MS would have the edge in equal equipment)

This. They have solid editing skills, and usually a very good music choice (not in this 2012 video sadly. Music is horrible)

Favourite RTL season reviews are 1998 and 1999. It is safe to say that those will be very difficult to beat, be it just because of the music choice, respectively: Queen - Don't stop me now, and 'Live and Let Die' opening theme.

James Allen (And several other F1 journalist's) got to hear the Mercedes V6 Turbo for 2014:
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2013/01/a ... e-in-2014/

Quote:
A visit to AMG Mercedes High Performance Powertrains (HPP) in Brixworth today yielded some fascinating insights into how F1 is set to change and what fans will see next season. And we got the chance to see one of the new generation V6 turbo engines on the dyne and to hear its sound.

It is noticeably less of a high-pitched wail at peak revs, as the maximum is now 15,000rpm, rather than the 18,000 previously. But through the upshifts and downshifts it sounds very much like an F1 engine and there is a sweetness to the sound which is distinctively F1. And the turbo, which revs to a maximum 125,000rpm will also be audible.

Also hope this proves to be true:
Quote:
With the new generation hybrid devices, the power unit will produce far more torque than the current V8s and this will lead to the cars stepping out more at the rear as they exit corners.

Don't really like the sound of this part though:
Quote:
One important aspect of change will be to see the power unit as a whole entity, so that each driver will have 5 power units for the season (currently he has 8 engines). So if he has a failure of ERS, turbo, an exhaust, battery or control electronics failure you will have to use a sixth power unit and incur a 10 place penalty. Today it’s only the engine itself which attracts a penalty.

According to F1 Fanatic, the Blu-Ray version of the review has 'the story of 2012' which is the context, narrated by Buxton.

The actual review is the same on both, The story of 2012 is a Bluray exclusive extra feature.

So basically what I expected: they cut out the pre-race and bulid-up stuff and added it to the Blu-Ray as an exclusive.

Yes, except apparently it isn't part of the feature, but just another extra.

Well according to Amazon this years Blu-Ray will be Region 2 and Region 1.

Thanks for posting this :) I was only checking Amazon.ca and Amazon.com, neither of which carried the blu-ray version but I ordered it from Amazon.co.uk last night, and noticed it mentioned both A/1 and B/2 region, as you posted.

Edit - I just checked on Amazon.co.uk and I noticed they've changed it to read Region B/2 only, wtf! When I ordered the item it said A/1 & B/2 as mentioned above. Hopefully they process the return, ugh.

I just got the bluray review and im dissapointed with the race highlights, a lot of action crucial overtakings are missing. And only 8-12 min for the really good action packed races wich of these 3 min gets Hamiltons girlfriend and other celeberties - what a crap.
Last years Canada gp had 30 min of video material and here they cant put anything together. An action packed Spa on the review looks very very dull except the crash, but the rest looked shit. When there were so manny overtakings - that goes for the other races too (havent watched Brazil yet...)
But dissapointed with the review so so far, much crucial overtakings were left out :(

this doesn't surprise me at all.

I never liked FOM and it's selection of images even during the live broadcasts.

Going by what was said(btw, thanks very much for that phil !), the only onboard from Q that they included was Rosberg's pole lap which was already shown live after Q3 and also redundantly in F1.com(btw, FOM does this a lot instead of offering different unseen onboard in the official website).

The only time I remember they doing a good job was with Kimi's commentating his qualifying lap in Suzuka 2009. Not only the commentary was great itself, but that onboard was not shown live which made it an exclusive feature on the 2009 review( danke Echti, for uploading it for me back in 09 when I asked you where did it came from when I saw it on youtube ;) ).

For me:
FujiTv's "Driver's Eyes" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any FOM's review, or anything FOM does, actually
