It is about money. I don't know what the budget was for Speed, but it's a hell of a lot less than BBC/Sky.

It's interesting you said about them not using Will that much. I wonder if that's because of his GP2/3 commitments, because that takes up most of Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning at the European races.

I'm assuming kals is talking about his use during the race, like Gary Anderson and Ted Kravitz.

Correct.

Buxton was a tool that Speed should have made better use. To have had him on-screen for only a couple of minutes per race (not including grid walk) was missing out big time.

'Buxton was a tool' - Double meaning ahoy!

Maybe NBC will make better use of him? I just find, and this is from a UK perspective, I want to know information that I can't find just by watching on TV or using the Internet. Ie, what team members are saying, what 'paddock insiders' are saying. I want to know from a pit reporter what is going on and what the plans are. It's difficult to know fully, but I find Gary Anderson does a good job at this.

I thought Gary Anderson sucked at it. Ted however was excellent.

Gary's information was good and, although it was hilarious that they cut to him whenever team radio was played, it was actually something you'd want to know. Albeit, understanding his accent was tricky at times. Ted's notebook after the race is good, and he does have some good information as well, but when it comes to the pit strategy, I think Gary just edges it. On an overall 'who would you take' argument, I'd probably say Ted, BUT he could learn something from Gary.

I liked Gary. I'm not sure he had the best voice for it, and maybe he lacked the enthusiasm of Ted, but his knowledge and information was always worth listening to. Ted tends to spend the entire race 'just down at Mclaren.'

To be fair, if you're looking for news, it's always worth being "just down at McLaren". They're always busy fucking up a pit stop, making a retarded strategy call, making Red Bull look reliable, or if you're Whitmarsh, just talking complete bullshit. Always fun down at McLaren!

Ted's great because he's just a geeky fan of the sport and clearly has lots of passion end enthusiasm which relays well to viewers. I don't know of he'd be any good as a commentator (James Allen was ok as a pit reporter and look how hated he became!).

Buxton is horrible. I've gotten the impression that he's not well liked by F1 paddock and seems to have very few contacts with then F1. I believe James Allen would've been better pit reporter for NBC.

I think Buxton does a good job as commentator for GP3 and GP2 given he's on his own, but other than that he isn't worth having. Tends to hear silly rumours and report them as fact too.

But even as a commentator Buxton makes some extremely questionable remarks and assumptions about what is happening on track. Perhaps he'd be better as the support commentator for someone.

I can't speak for his F1 coverage, but on GP2 and GP3 I find him to be quite good, apart from his unbalanced praise of a few drivers.
