Was Ari Vatanen the Fia director?

No. He was the other candidate for presidency when Jean Todt was elected.

I for one am happy that we have drivers with personalities behaving the way they do even if these driver's behaviour makes them look like dicks at times. F1 would be so vanilla otherwise. Keep it going please Lewis, Seb and the rest.

Yeah, one Jimmie Johnson is enough.

Hamilton wasn't decelerating so much, Vettel expected him to accelerate and go full throttle.

Both played unfair, but Vettels thing is just a bad role model for the younger drivers/series

People moaning that Vettel wasn't punished enough, Mucke only got a ten place grid drop for this

I say all the fanboys across the internet should come forward and put their heavily biased and unbalanced views on forums and social media, and squabble amongst each other while calling each other every name under the sun and behaving generally like kids arguing over who gets the last cookie in the cookie jar... oh wait...

Be careful, people around here understand sarcasm as well as I speak Swahili.

You can speak Swahili?

Some people here and elsewhere go a long way of convoluting the rear-ending incident to clear Vettel of responsibility and put it on Hamilton.

The FIA examined the telemetry. We all saw the speeds and the throttle/brake indicators on TV.

Vettel expected Hamilton to accelerate, which he didn't. He maintained his apex speed as he exited the corner (60 to 50kph by lifting off, does it matter for an F1 car? If you get surprised by that, you were too close to begin with. Comparing this to Schumacher at Monza braking hard from 200kph to 100kph in the middle of a straight would be ridiculous). You can clearly see on the overhead external cam that Hamilton kept his speed fairly constant (within a 10kph window), and it's Vettel rushing to accelerate out of the turn expecting Hamilton to go that caused the collision. Compare it to Perez and how the Perez/Hamilton gap remained somewhat constant when Vettel/Perez gap increased.

Don't just look at it from Vettel's eyes (onboard cam), as it will look like Hamilton braked suddenly. It's Vettel that accelerated into him. Hamilton was being a trickster here, kind of a dick move at that, but he was preparing his restart and it's not his job to comply with the expectations of the driver behind him, especially not while leading a SC restart phase and cruising at 50kph.

The whole incident could have been prevented if there actually where some proper safetycar rules.
We've seen these antics for years now. The lead driver drops far behind the safetycar. Bunches up the field and then suddenly smashes the gas. Some anticipate better then others but it does create potential hazards.
Force them to stick close to the safetycar and you fixed most of the issue.

I mean it is great to see the FIA stick this 10 car lengths rule isn't it.

This shouldn't even be hard any more. The tracks now have multiple timing loops, so just write it into the rules that the SC lights will not go out until the lead driver is x number of loops behind the SC.

Hell, the same thing could be accomplished with a rear-facing camera in the SC. Or a fresnel-lensed light that is green when the lead car is at the right distance...

The SC should have a fixed-length 10m wire that tows the leader of the race. But he can't use it to turn off the engine and save fuel (Good Lord I hope Liberty isn't reading this post).

Regardless of all the commotion, I'm glad that this race is still causing so much discussion and passion 3 days after. We've had threads die off before the race even ended, this is refreshing in comparison.

I can understand the officials on this one. Who would want to piss off a suicidal maniac that just basically put his car into the wall at 200kph just to make a point? :p

The 10 car rule does not apply anymore when the lights on the safety car are turned off. Then it's up to the leading driver to control the speed. It's pretty clear in the rules :o

The fia is now investigating the incident.

Like I said before. Both a ban for a few races to spice up the championship

We've already discussed it to no end, but I think it's still an interesting graph about the telemetry.

I do think it's right that the FIA investigates the second hit again, especially since Vettel was on the final warning after his behavior in Mexico.

The more there are scandalous news, the better for Liberty Media.
Also they won't give a ban, because they need Seb and Lewis to be on Thursday press conference in Austria. :innocent:

This thread is remarkable that even the FIA now is releasing shady data to support their darling boy hamilton

You know, the same FIA that invented corner/rejoining/repassing rules just so they could strip Lewis of a win 10 year ago

Also each case is judged on its individual merits. So the fact Micheal Schumacher completely stood on the brakes around the blind, dark corner of the monaco Tunnel has no baring here.

We're really in a post-expert, news is "fake news" if it doesn't fit my pre-existing agenda world now aren't we?

In b4 the next theory, Vettel and Hamilton have been told by the new owners to ramp up a rivalry to help the sport.
