i dont mean it to sound callous, i just echo coldtyres sentiment. if he's just a vegetable that requires 247 care then why does his family keep him going? just to have him there as a prop? Also, and this is something i often am curious of.. what's going on in his mind? To us he could be a vegetable, but perhaps in his brain he is reliving his glory days, every F1 race, his marriage, the birth of his child, etc.. In which case, the outward body staying around isn't such a bad thing. The flip side is his mind could be an absolute horror worse than a bad trip on acid and mushrooms and he's just begging for it to be over. Thirdly, it could be just blank. He could mentally already be gone, in which case there really is no point. |

Going of slightly, but you have to put it into a written, witnessed statement, otherwise the doctors or next of kin can override any third party verbal instructions if it goes against the hypocratic oath. Been through this particular ringer a few years ago and we were fortunate, or unfortunate enough depending on how you look at it, to have the decision totally taken out of our and the doctors hands by the person themselves as they were awake and told the doctors to stop before it was too late to. Although we knew her wishes, the Doctor later told us that because it wasn't in writing, he or any of his colleagues could have chose to ignore it if the patient was not conscious and had not conveyed their wishes directly to them. It's a horrible thing to think about, but I would encourage everybody to make a living will as it takes that awful burden off the person most closest to you should something happen. |

quite some reports are now saying that he is communicating in some way. just read an article that he communicated with the ambulance personnel that transported him. They had to give their cell phones and were not aware that it was Michael, as they had given a false name. He communicated not by talking though. He also lost a lot of weight. The family should really say in all honnesty what the situation is exactly at this point. Because I have a feeling there will be a lot of speculation now and we don't need speculation and assumptions, we need the truth. |

Yes, they say he was "conscious", had his eyes open and responded to the personnel by nodding his head ([bad tast/] or would that just be the bumps on the road? [/bad tast]) The general media conveys a lot of euphoria around this. Either we're witnessing a miraculous recovery, or most likely everyone is terribly misled into false hope. |

It's been discussed over and over again, but the official PR is a farce that's turning against Michael and his family's good intentions. Because the world is how it is towards the celebrities. First comes the paparazzi's, then the rumors, the "insider scoops", then cruel rumors and after that, the jokes. The big mass will soon forget all the good the man has ever done and being a fan becomes a burden. Some of the fans will jump in that bandwagon and the real fans get their good feelings and memories stained. It has happened with many other icons too, partially due the negative public image that makes the joking acceptable. I don't know about you guys, but what this week's official media outlet has seemed to cause, is that the bandwagon has started to roll, if you ask me. The timing alone started the jokes that Michael woke up to watch German's first World Cup game of the tournament. I feel gutted about this and I see it only getting worse with this policy the family insists to use (rumor, deny, more rumors, politically correct statement, speculations, silence, repeat). Just my 2 cents. Good to hear some positive-ish rumors for a change. |

I'm very surprised to read it, but apparently a senior doctor at the Swiss hospital has been talking about the recent move. He stated that Michael is conscious and alert for the most part, can react and follow people with his eyes, and can nod in response to questions, although he cannot speak. He is also still on a feeding tube, but spends notable periods during the day breathing on his own. I don't have the source to hand now, but this is actually much better than Gary Hartstein's prognosis if true. |
