I think someone would be smart to get into the Caterham for 2014.

Why? You keep bigging up Caterham for 2014, and yet your accuracy of predictions is somewhat questionable.

- They have an ample midfield budget
- They abandoned 2013 in favour of 2014 (a decision made in mid/late 2012)
- The Renault engine should be strong

I don't suddenly expect them to be winning, but they should be in the midfield.

So they'll get through Q1 a couple of times next year?

I'm skeptical about all of that, because

- They already have an ample midfield budget
- They already have a strong technical team
- They've had the back end of a Red Bull since 2011
- They've had one of the best engines on the grid since 2011

And yet they are still barely beating Marussia, who by comparison have done a great job. Using the logic of abandoning one season to favour another doesn't always work either.

If he'd held onto his seat at Williams for another year think he would have got a few podiums in that car.

I simply hold the same opinion Sauber does. That opinion could lead them, at the moment, to a Rubens\Sirotkin partnership for next year.

For the record, a Rubens\Gutierrez partnership would almost certainly be better than Rubens\Sirotkin, but that would be dependent on Sirotkin not getting a Superlicense.

I'm probably wrong (as ever), but Rubens made his GP debut two years before Sirotkin was born. Has it ever happened before where one driver wasn't even born when his team-mate made his debut?

Nope. Only time that'd work would be if you would count the pre-war GP races. Piero Taruffi ran the Mille Miglia in 1930, the same year as Stirling Moss was born, for example, and Louis Chiron and some others were active in the 1920's.

From what I understand (old information cerca Barcelona Testing), they abandoned 2013 because they didn't have an ample midfield budget ... they couldn't afford to pay Kovalainen, I don't think he would have been breaking the bank for an ample midfield team.

Rosberg and the Mercedes engineers (via the medium of Gary Anderson) helpfully explain the real reason why Vettel was lapping 2 seconds quicker than them at Singapore.

Quote:
Behind him, in second place, Nico Rosberg was in the same position on strategy, but he had bits of discarded tyre rubber lodged in the front wing of his Mercedes. Rosberg said in Korea on Thursday that his engineers had worked out that this cost him downforce worth 1.7 seconds a lap.

That's old news. I remember that being talked about during the Singapore GP.

Aw.

One of the other Sauber rumours going around is that the team might be persuaded to take Petrov for a season instead of Sirotkin whilst he builds up more experience.

Finally, common sense has prevailed. I'm no fan of Petrov but he makes more sense than Sirotkin who needs more experience. Or if the new owners insist on a Russian, then there's that other driver who won FR3.5 a few years back who I rate much higher than Petrov.

Considering the quality McLaren's most recent acquisitions I fully expect this "major tech signing" will be either Nigel Stepney or them re-hiring Mike Coughlan. Or perhaps they'll be embarking on a technical relationship with Nick Wirth.

Welcome back to F1 Dave Richards, Craig Pollack and Jonathan Palmer lol

Oh, and Whitmarsh is fired and Flavio will be running the team from now on.

lol Flavio running the squeaky clean McLaren answering to Ron Dennis. Boy I'd like to be a fly on the wall in those board meetings.
