Ha, we talked about the same thing on the old forum 11 years ago.
For example: http://tbk.fameflame.dk/viewtopic.php?p=84622#p84622

Also, accurate prediction by PTRACER although by 2003 Spa, Hungaroring and A1-Ring and were partially tarmacked:
Quote:
We will probably see gravel traps scrapped at all circuits by a few years time, in a similar way that we did to catch fencing.

http://tbk.fameflame.dk/viewtopic.php?p=62518#p62518

The least I would ask FIA, for the sake of variety, not to make all tracks identical in terms of forgiveness. FIA is pondering why F1 is losing its popularity and at the same time they're taking out all the excitement from the sport. Then they think double points and sparks will solve everything. :slaphead:

there should be at least something to give a light damage to the cars to punish off course

In 'shit that actually matters' news, Montezemelo might be about to leave Ferrari.

Montezemolo departure wouldn't surprise me. He's been bit senile in recent years. Aldo Costa just the other day more or less pointed the finger at Montezemolo for Ferrari decline in F1.

Lapo Elkann, Grandson of Gianni Agnelli, has been rumored as the next Chairman of Ferrari for few years now. Hopefully that'll never happen and FIAT can pry Stephan Winkelmann away from Lamborghini.

anyway that's my proposal and I dunno its gonna be taken into account

Yeah because that's exactly what an out of control car needs, a ramp.

An "out of control car"? At the exit of a corner? That is usually lack of skill and should be punished. And please don't come again with that "what about a braking problem" argument. I just want diversification of the tracks. Character. Not one bland mix of unison. There's Bach for that.

I understand everyone's points, it does remove some character and doesn't punish errors. But I'm on the side of safety. This is the future. If you can't get over that, go watch old tapes and stay there. If people are complaining about the sport being safe enough as it is, it's not. It never is. A sport where mobile missiles travel beyond 350km/h can never be safe. Even with a kilometre of run off area, safety walls lined by 10,000 pillows.

If TBK existed in 1968, members would be bitching and responding about how replacing leather skull caps with full face crash helmets was "pussifying the sport", "I'm not watching this anymore, this isn't the sport I fell in love with in 1954".

I mean, it's one corner. One fucking corner. It's not the end of the world. Someone complained that the corner previously had the potential to ruin someones race. F1 has been at Monza for so many years, I've never seen someones race end there from a mistake. Perez crashed there in FP last year, Fisi crashed there in the Ferrari in practice too. I can barely recall any other time.

Also, with more confidence, it means drivers will be taking more speed onto the straight. We have the potential to see higher top speeds. What everyone's missing is that the most dangerous corner in F1 at the moment (arguably), the first chicane, will now be even more dangerous. Think about that.

Your belligerant attitude, and I am right cause I work in the motorsport industry so fuck everyone else's opinions is really starting to wear thin with me Scotty. To the point where any valid points that you do make get lost because I am now starting to gloss over your posts.

Share your opinion by all means, cause that's what this forum is all about, but lay off the "I'm right and you are all wrong" rhetoric.

The thing is, it isn't just one corner. It's one of the few like it that we had left. The shot of the cars coming off the Parabolica at high speed with their wheels right against the edge has now been lost, and that blows.

As I said before, would you accept the engines being limited to 150mph for the sake of safety? Or closed wheels and cockpits for the sake of safety? Or moving all grandstands 500 metres further back for the sake of safety? Yes, safety is important, but there comes a point where it goes too far and starts to unnecessarily ruin the spectacle. F1 has reached that point, in my opinion. Others may think my attitude is reckless and old fashioned. *shrugs* It probably does depend on how much the sport has changed since you fell in love with it.

It's a false sense of safety. The danger isn't the tracks, it is the other drivers. Keeping their heads in check will do much more than another parking lot.

See the WSBR incident on the pit straight at Monza earlier this year for example. It is that kind of incident that is the most likely to hurt someone in 2014.

So the track will be like Valencia... with walls close to track...

I'm really curious how it will look like when cars zoom through theses streets. From the top it looks interesting, with the barriers really close to the track. It has a bit of a street-race feeling. Look at T1, how fast ist is and how close the barrier is on the outside. Are there any shots from the entry of the pitlane?

Turn 1 there is basically a carbon copy of the Valencia turn 1: nothing more than a kink you can take flat-out. I don't think it will be a challenge at all.
Actually turn 2 could become interesting at the start.

pit exit looks pretty hairy as well, between the walls

And yeah T2 is gonna be interesting at the start, probably the longest run of the year to the first braking zone.

At least the scenery is much better than the one in Valencia.

You mean water and a few yachts by the trackside and shots of scantily clad women while the cars go by them on track. Yeah, Valencia had that too.

The only street course I was actually looking forward too was the New Jersey GP. Great layout (from the video) and great background, too bad that looks like a lost cause.

Which is why Formula 1 flirted with standing starts after a safety car. B
Because standing starts are obviously the safest portion of any race.
