things like:

Quote:
It is the fans that makes the sport what it is, so the more you block them or deter them the worse the business is going to be for the people that own it.

Quote:
He also expressed sympathy for fans being hit by increased costs to follow grands prix, and said he doubts the number of viewers is going to increase.

"It is bloody expensive nowadays with everything you have in your home, with all your insurance and all the things you do end up paying," he said.

"And on top of that you have to pay for TV and for a TV licence, which is ridiculous.

"[I am] pretty sure that number is not going to change, because the economy, it is a difficult time for everyone particularly now, so it is a shame that the fans are not getting to see as much."

I guess the producers approached Ferrari to make the documentary and they just replied the same as usual "we are the most traditional and recognized brand in F1 so we'll allow shooting only if you pay a 7 figure value to us as we provide half of your potential viewers"

is there anyone here who saw that logo on the Ferrari and thinking of a tobacco brand? Or anyone who is not that familiar with F1 will say, hey that's Marlboro!

When I saw it appear last season, it never occurred to me that it was even an external sponsor. I thought it was just some internal brand or catchphrase they pulled out for special occasions or just because it looked cool.
Wasn't until the car launch this year that people started talking about the "M" being Marlboro.

Winnow stickers will be back on the car for Bahrain according to Rencken.

With the EU's interest in investigating the branding, I can see it ending up much like the actual Marlboro logos did, with the stickers off the car more frequently than they are on. Which then begs the question - what is the point?

Given the fact Phillip Morris is still Ferrari's main sponsor, my question is more on the other way round - Why sponsoring a team when you barely use the space you have the rights on?

me neither, this kind of advertising had more success when James Hunt climbed out of his car and lighted a Marlboro

I used to smoke as a kid but I didnt start smoking because of F1.
I did however pick brands due to F1. I remember getting chesterfields due to them sponsoring Scuderia Italia. And I would have gotten Mild Seven if it was available for me.

Has there been any F1 car sponsored by Kent?

The tobacco cars were always the prettiest. I do miss them... And all the filthy, sinful money they brought to the table.

The matter of firming up the 2021 technical regulations is still not resolved, which is beginning to threaten budgetary planning for those seasons for some teams.

But it's OK, because Liberty are focused on the things that really matter.

How about a point for the driver who made the most overtaking manoeuvres too?

At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if Williams ends up in a Force India/Racing Point situation like last year....but with less options for backers.

I know their priorities are wrong, but this particular idea is a fucking good idea. If anything, you should get one, two even four points for fastest lap.

It gives drivers an incentive to push until the last lap, whether you are first or tenth.

Imagine 20 laps into the race, dark clouds in the sky, rain on the radar, drivers will be pushing like mad for those points right up until the rain comes.

but why only for the first ten? Why not everyone? Could spice up things in the end of the race if especially drivers at the back will go for new tyres and try a fastest lap.

There should be a point for pole position

Author:  Coldtyre [ Thu Mar 07, 2019 8:29 am ]
Post subject:  Re: 2019 Formula One Random Discussion Thread

It bothers me that top teams would hog these points anyway (pole, overtaking, fastest lap). There will always be one of the top 6 drivers in position to pit and do all these late race when they know they can't fight for top positions.

I can see it spicing up the championship battle if it's close. But for any backmarker, it will always be easier to get points by remaining in a race of attrition where top guys get eliminated, rather than any sort of reward for pure speed.
