Maybe they hide the special parts until testing or beyond?

that renault just missed the BVB crest. Liked it though, yellow and black looks great

Hugely approve of how it's yellow from the front, but black from the side. Top job from them to make a pretty meh colour combo very interesting.

I also like the way they developed the livery without being too retroish (not that being retro is bad, but the traditional Renault livery from the early 80's wouldn't fit into today's cars) and yet preserving the traditional colors

Sean 'Make It Shiny' Bull did some non-rendering work:

That's not bad, in fairness.

That's how every helmet should be. Simple.

I don't know what happened in the last years that drivers come with helmets full of small details that no one will see at high speed.

Well, the more I see the Halo the more I'm flabbergasted that an American based series, who had more deaths in the last 20 years and in a country that is sue-happy, is more rational when it comes to major injury and death and can come up with a much better solution.

Do we have the Indycar aero screen testing results, or load specs ? You're a bit hasty in calling the screen a "better" solution. I mean, everyone is considering this from an aesthetics point of view, but you have to compare products that are designed to the same specification.

When F1 tested the aero screen, it looked much bulkier than the current Indycar one. And the Indycar one doesn't seem to be mounted as part of the monocoque so I'm yet to see how it takes flips and car-on-car impacts.
I am not sure a clipped-in plastic screen will be able to take 10 tons without detaching from the cockpit the way it's mounted, would it?

The laws of physics are the same everywhere in the world, maybe Indycar had to make compromises on strength due to more stringent visibility and cost constraints than F1?

See some videos show that the screen did not perform as well as the HALO (see at 0:35).

I think that the FIA video makes a good job of explaining why they went with HALO rather than the screen, and that it's not abandoned completely - they consider reverting to it and making a sexier concept as research advances.

That's the F1 mentality for you. Mercedes produced the halo back in 2015, everyone pissed and moaned about it, and yet the closest anyone else got to an alternative was Red Bull suggesting a canopy, and Ferrari actually putting one on a car, then dumping it without trying to solve the visual issues that PPG were able to fix. Of course, this was after the FIA mandated the halo...

The fact is, the IndyCar solution was a result of a shared desire to solve the problem, whereas the F1 solution is *always* a compromise because the teams have too much say in the rulemaking.

Philip Morris and Ferrari have issued a meandering corporate statement which I think amounts to them putting IQOS logos on the cars:

IMHO The FIA acts first and then thinks about it. You saw the same when Senna died. Suddenly we had makeshift tire chicanes on the straight in Spain which actually caused more dangers than it removed.

When Earnhart died at Daytona NASCAR first investigated what happened and then acted accordingly. Indycar pretty much does the same.

Despite its flaws in its society (ie the eagerness to sue over everything) the USA actually still understands racing is dangerous and that there always will be risks as where here in Europe the FIA acts like it would already panic if a driver would break a fingernail.

The new Toro Rosso has been papped on their filming day:

The quality isn't great, but there's something unusual going on with the nose. It almost looks ridged.

About 1994 that's not right. It was the reformed GPDA that requested the tyre chicane at Barcelona (and modifications at other circuits), not the FIA. The changes that the FIA pushed through were thought out and staged, rather than knee-jerk. The immediate changes to the cars in 1994 were the opening of the airboxes to reduce power and the plank to increase ride-height to reduce downforce. 1995 was reduction of engine capacity, revised aero rules and improved cockpit openings for driver protection. Then in 1996 was the introduction of the cockpit head protection.
