I lost interest in this part of the season because it only contains modern tracks, until Brazil. They have a bitter taste compared to the classics.

On a more general perspective, being a bit older than this page's commenters (freaking 27 next week...), I can definitely relate to, and confirm, what you're feeling.
I don't even watch all the races, while there was a time my entire life was built around being home/near a TV for the whole week-end sessions, or heart-brokingly taping them.

I still remember reading a paper about Hamilton being raised by Ron Dennis to be the next F1 superstar. He was 13 then, just a bit older than me, and I was still thinking "I drive karts! I could do that!" :lol:

Yeah, it's green for India, doesn't make it exciting. ;) Scenery wise, it's like Magny Cours. When you get a shot surrounding it with it, it's just meh.

The choice of country is what is most worrying, because like Turkey, India isn't know for its huge motorsport presence. The only reason Bahrain and co are still on the calendar is there is a massive amount of money there. Will India be willing to stump that up when the prices rise? Turkey didn't. It'd be a shame to lose a nice track (by modern standards).


Well the circuit is atleast an hour outside the city limits so it is in a rural area but I was really surprised how clean and green it was. In any case, they have some pretty big development plans for infrastructure around the circuit (i.e. the Jaypee Sports City) so it should start to look more developed over the years.

Its true that India doesnt have a huge motorsport presence or history. But I can tell you that F1's popularity there has risen massively over the past 5-6 years in the 18-34 demographic. I would say its second behind cricket there now. And with a growing economy, the middle class are doing far better now than they ever did. So personally, I'm quite confident in the future of this race, and I think it'll consistently pull in a decent crowd. And don't forget the massive population. While there's a lot of poverty in India, there's also a ton of people with money to spend.

You could argue that 120 years ago, no country had a motorsport history. Every country must start somewhere. The issue for me is getting it right at grass roots level, which is what they're starting to do in India.

Too many countries buy an F1 race but haven't got the infrastructure to support it or develop any talents. In Britain, and much of western Europe, every circuit will have some sort of racing or event nearly every week. In Korea they shut up shop for practically a whole season.

There's also a lot of doubt that Perez was actually ill. Buxton said he looked pissed off, before adding that

"Saw Checo yesterday. For someone with a cold there was a distinct lack of a cough, runny nose, streaming eyes etc. Just looked annoyed."

Also watched The F1 Show and was disappointed to hear Johnny Herbert say that Gutierrez didn't impress. New track for him, dusty surface, F1 car he'd never driven, not driven a car for a month, we don't know the programme for FP1. It's just the sort of criticism a young driver could do without. Granted, he wasn't amazing or anything, but it was fine.

The news have been for a week about Ferrari showing their support for those two italian navy officers who shot Indian fishermen and are now arrested in India. Now they're saying it's just there as an honour for the institution itself? That's a huge pile of bullshit trying to dodge the bullets. Quite similar thing by the Ferrari as with the F150-case.

Oh and by the way. Doesn't the FIA regulations say that political acts are not allowed during F1 weekends? We've got Jerez-gate and Turkey-gate as an example of this.

And if they had even the smallest piece honesty with this navy flag-gate, they should have gone with their WW2 flag.

Your view on it is interesting because most F1 fans love this track. Eventhough I'm not among them in the hardcore love for it, I think from T5 to T12, which is most of the track, is very nice.

Same here. I don't know why, but this season never really grew on me, except for a few races in first 1/3 of the season, which brought me some excitment. This is the closest field F1 ever had, yet I think it all have been a bit meh... Maybe, like lot of other members said, getting older and acquiring some other priorities in life have a big say on it.
