I just saw that - what's the point in putting it there? That place has given us overtaking through the years in any case. I would have much preferred either the start/finish or the bit between T10 and T11.

Start/Finish straight wouldn't have worked, fast corner leading onto it like at Melbourne and it's too short, and I guess the bit between T10 & 11 is also too short (shorter than the start/finish straight) for anyone to get remotely close to overtaking

Yeah but it would have helped I think. At least it would have got cars trying to pass at two places on the track. People aren't even going to bother trying at any part of the track now, except the DRS straight, where they will just breeze past them. Plenty of overtaking I'm sure will happen, but it will seem dull. They need to improve the chances of overtaking at other places on the track.

The new rules will only work on real race tracks like we saw in Sepang, but on street circuits nothing will change, the straights are just too short - the same will be in Hungary...

Hungaroring has shown that the s/f straight can provide overtaking, and with DRS may provide even more.

The straights in Singapore and Valencia aren't too short, only Monaco.

But when you watch the Kobayashi vs Webber battle in Sepang...
Webber overtakes him in last turn and then when they are going to turn 1 - u can see clearly on KOBs onboard that it takes about 3-4 sec or more till his gets faster than the car infront

watch Mattzels video and you will see what i mean... it takes a couple of second till the car behind gets the "boost" to overtake - and these may be crucial in Hungary or other tracks

The main straight in Hungary is still about 700m though, isn't it? Thats long enough.

Absolutely. Given the high downforce settings the cars will be running, theorectically the DRS should make a decent difference.

The problem is that it takes those 4 sec that the car behind gets the boost to overtake....
And on some tracks maybe it wont be enough....
But in China it will be more than enough lol

the problem with the hungaroring is that it are pretty slow corners entering the straight. A better option would be to go from T11 immediately into T14, so that the cars are already speeding up and then with DRS it should work also on the hungaroring.

In theory, there is only one track where DRS will not work and that is Monaco, all the others have long enough straights:

Istanbul - Back straight, after "Faux Rouge"
Catalunya - Main straight
Monaco - Presumably after Portier and before the Nouvelle Chicane
Canada - From the hairpin to the final chicane
Valencia - Either where Webber or Kral went loop the loop
Silverstone - Hangar Straight
Nurburgring - This is the other one I'm not so sure about. Either the main straight or the back straight
Hungaroring - Main straight
Spa - Kemmel to Les Combes
Monza - Parabolica into Turn 1
Singapore - Along Esplanade Drive or Raffles Avenue
Suzuka - Another one I don't know, because you ideally want into the Casio triangle, but you need maximum downforce through 130r.
Korea - The ridiculously long staight
India - T3-4
Bahrain - Main straight
Interlagos - Main straight
AD - Who knows

So the drivers cannot use DRS the whole length of the straight, interesting. Also Shanghai's straight longer than Korea's straight?

In monaco it should be the start finish "straight" or nowhere

I mean there's zero chance of passing happening anywhere at monaco even if 22 guys were given F3 cars and Vettel and Webber were given their Red Bulls but told to start at the back, but it's the only place that makes even the tiniest bit of sense at that track.

Or was said before, it shouldn't be used. I mean practice will be frickin' scary enough if they're allowed to use it constantly!

Judging by the pictures that big grandstand at T12 now has Chinese symbols on it & UBS sponsorship is on the massive pit building

it's a true shame that China, a country with one of the largest populations in the world (if not the largest?), doesn't even manage to get the stands full. Ticket prices are too high I guess so only the 'elite' has access.

I was watching the South African GP from Kyalami in 1979 recently and it said how everyone was allowed to watch the action for free. Only the stands requested an admission fee ($10 lol). The result was cars and people everywhere over the vast area the circuit occupied and it looked so much better. (of course Kyalami on itself already looks great)
