I really enjoyed reading this article about the old days and lack of safety. Spa is specifically mentioned...

Enjoy.

Les COMBES with TARMAC RUNOFF :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk:

Quote:
Modifications made to Les Combes AUTOSPORT.COM

Modifications have been made to Les Combes chicane at Spa-Francorchamps in a bid to deter drivers from cutting the corner.

As part of a number of revisions made to the Belgian Grand Prix venue, the large section of grass behind the corner sequence has been relaid with asphalt.

As well as that, bumps similar to those used at the Monza chicanes have been put down - which will act as a deterrent to slow drivers down if they run off the track.

Behind the Turn 6 kerb itself, a section of artificial grass has been laid down - while on the exit of the left hander the section has been turned into a 50mm negative kerb with more artificial grass.

The other change to the Spa circuit is that the artificial grass at the exit of La Source hairpin has been widened and extended to the end of the run-off area.

It's the worst plage of the Today's F1...

build a wall, most effective way to stop cutting the corner

Or put a deep gravel trap...they wouldn't get out of it.

Should have kept the wall on the exit of La Source.

I don't think tarmac with little bumps will deter drivers as much as grass.

As if tarmac runoff at one corner totally ruins the track, seriously get over it.

Err...the new "La Source" with the ridiculously large run off, the new "Bus Stop", the tarmac run off at Pouhon, the ridiculously useless run off exiting Stavelot. Pretty much all the track to me
This is just another stupid adjustment to keep F1 at Spa

Yeah, it used to be so much better. Shoot me down for 'living in the past' but pre-2004 was the best. Gravel at Pouhon, no run off at La Source and old bus stop. So much better.

So he'll try and open the door and break his finger, enter the stewards room, trip up and sustain concussion. But not before telling the BBC on Saturday that when he crashed at Le Mans he saw the white light.

I fully agree. And those were just as safe and kept the drivers in check.

It's like Eau Rouge, one flip from a driver going to fast for his car to take and they take away the gravel, put in tarmac that the drivers use as a shortcut.
