I'm sure there's about 30-40 people who've tried to qualify for a GP, but never qualified/started one.

Lola-F1 were about 13 seconds off the pace weren't they?

Did Gary Brabham even make a full lap in pre-qualifying?

Didn't even make the real qualifying. 13 DNPQs.

wow, that's pretty sad.

The car was a piece of crap. It made the Andrea Moda chassis look competent.

Not surprised, considering it was somewhat based off the Coloni.

He made 3 laps in Phoenix in 1990, 25 seconds off the pace. It was Bertrand Gachot in the Subaru-powered Coloni at the same event who failed to complete one.

Another prominent DNQ'er is one B.C. Ecclestone at the 1958 Monaco GP.

But in that case they got round it by adding more winglets and aerodynamical pieces which increased the amount of dirty air coming off the back of the cars. With these rule changes any aerodynamic pieces on the sidepods etc are banned so it shouldnt be a problem. But i see where you're coming from, the teams will always find a way to get round the rules, and then all of a sudden at the next race every team on the grid has done the same

Of course the last female F1 driver Giovanni Amati DNQ'd her three race attempts. Then got replaced by Damon Hill at Brabham.

Desire Wilson once beat a 15-time world champion in a motor race.

They can't use the winglets again, no, but a couple of years ago we didn't have any idea the cars we're going to end up looking like they do now. Who knows what kind of things we're going to see in the next few years?

Not if it ruins the racing to the extent it has done now.

Lets be honest here, the racing isn't much different now than it was in 2003 or in 1997 or in 1990 etc, when faster cars qualifying in front of slower cars, there isn't going to be much overtaking, and it has been that way ever since F1 has existed. There has been the odd race where some sort of random occurance has set off an overtaking fest, and that has even happened to some extent this season.

True, but the racing has got noticeably worse on the faster tracks such as Silverstone, Spa, Monza etc., and I don't think it's coincidence.

Other than a few random races where those 3 tracks had a ridiculously good race, what is exactly different about it? I've seen many older races at all of those tracks and they were either the same or even more boring than recent races there have been. Obviously the winglets don't help, but it's just a part of development and without that part, F1 wouldn't be F1.

I think the one thing that has made things so predictable, perhaps two things, can't be unlearnt and that is reliability. F1 cars nowadays are just too reliable. Someone said what was so great about the race before last was that we actually had some retire from the lead with a few laps to go and 2nd place had a puncture.

I think it might be overstating it to say a while back you were waiting for cars to break down, but we've got to a stage where each car has 1-2 mechanical induced problems per year.

You know what I'd like to see? Alonso at BMW with Kubica next year. That would be fun.

As a Heidfeld fan, this season has been very frustrating. The issue BMW have though is who do replace Nick with who would be quicker than him?
