I think with Horan they cut to a break just in case a driver hit him.

Nurburgring. I still remember Murray's words as they came back from the break.

I bet ITV would have been on a break if they'd had the coverage in 94 when Schumacher hit Hill.

IIRC, it was planned- the flashing chevron was in the top-right corner.

I don't think you quite understand just how many major F1 moments were missed by ITV. Two title-deciding moments for starters. Hill passing Schumacher at the 1997 Hungarian GP. Father Horan's spot of breaking and entering, Silverstone 2003. Taking an ad break 3 laps from the end of the 2005 San Marino GP. And more besides.

Schumachers engine blowing up at Suzuka 06 is another one that sticks in my mind

No, the box had already appeared in the top right hand corner. They were already going for a break. In fact, James had said we'll see you after the break before they cut to Hangar Straight and then he started talking again.

They also missed Panis' lap that put him 3rd on the grid in Argentina 1997 and in some regions of the UK they missed the chequered flag of France 2003....though not mine.

Actually, no, 3 title-deciding moments- Schumacher at Suzuka (1998, 2006) and Hamilton last year.

Brazil 2007 really had two-title deciding moments - they got the second one.

Ah, I don't remember seeing it or him saying that. Must have been the shock of seeing someone running along the track.

I remember at the moment my initial reaction was more of disappointment than shock and like many others across the UK I went for the radio remote to see if he's been obliterated into a thousand pieces.

It's been posted over on DigitalSpy by a guy who works for ITV that they commit to going to a break a few minutes before, so it was just a very lucky (or unlucky) coincidence. Allen kept commentating through the break and they showed that in the highlights, he did a pretty good job actually...

If a driver had hit him, ITV would have been fortunate that the break had been planned at that time. Can you imagine the shit they'd have received for showing someone getting splattered all over Hanger Straight?

I wonder if the Milton Keynes based team was reunited with tartan if ITV/BBC have some sort of pre-planned cut to studio/music with flowers. I'm not talking about Kubica or Senna type events, I'm talking about Pryce or Le Mans 55 type events.

The Daily Mail would've had a field day, no doubt

So long JA. Imagine if Murray had commentated the last laps of the Brazilian GP.

"OMG this is so fantastic"Image
or
"Ohhhhh my goodness this is so amazing" :eyecrazy:

Probably

"There's a Toyota slowing, but we don't care about that. Hamilton needs to get past Vettel and he doesn't AND he crosses the line in 6th and FELIPE MASSA IS CHAMPION!!!

At least the slight confusion at the end meant James Allen didn't actually climax.

"And as Lewis Senna becomes world champion, I'm going to have to stop speaking, because I've got a lump in my pants"

Shudder. Just a horrible nightmare, thankfully.

For those not aware of the alternative meaning, they could have thought that Murray was actually telling us all he had throat cancer.

Presumably they have the rights until 31st December, so I'd imagine so.
