There are no unworthy champions. Just some are more deserving than others.

Come on, 2016 has been a pretty shitty year, lets finish it. Say it to TBK Kals......JV was a deserving champion :D

The terrifying thing is, he was a couple of reliability issues away from being a debut champion in 1996. Imagine, JFV with the same number of titles as Alonso and Hakkinen :8:

Villeneuve only appeared "good" in Newey cars and once he was gone, nowhere.

Hah, funny you say that after approving the post above which mentions Mika Hakkinen. :p

Anyway, I think that "pre-1998 Jacques Villeneuve" (a rare creature only seen in the wild for about two years before completely disappearing into an abyss of mediocrity) is a deserving world champion because, let's face it, who at the time was even a close match apart from Schumacher (up top) and Hill?

Alesi? Berger? Irvine? Coulthard? The field was just lazy, or full of drivers yet to reach their prime like Hakkinen or Frentzen, heck even Barrichello and the like.

Every so often a blind squirrel finds a nut.

Look that's unfair. JV was a pioneer in F1 and that needs to be recognised. JV used to change his hair colour and style almost on a race by race basis. 10+ years later, Vettel started doing the same with his helmet.

Oh, Jenson

Button: "I would crash into Rosberg for money"

Lewis "Eddie Irvine" Hamilton on Sunday then

This assumes Nico won't be on pole and Lewis won't already have had a mechanical failure in Practice or qualifying and find himself at the back of the grid.

Or, you know, Nico just on pole with Lewis 2nd anyway.

Or Nico 2nd but decides to Senna his way to the title in turn 1. Even Lewis would have to respect that

Or you know, any other championship permutations that would be actually interesting to see happen aside from the dirge we're going to get.

He threw one down Dannii Minogue, so he achieved more in F1 than we give him credit for.

Yes true. But it ain't Kylie though. I should be so lucky.

(yeah that was bad, I'll get my coat)

I've always felt that everyone that manages to win a WDC is a worthy & deserving champion even if they did it in the best car or with less competition for it.

Reason been that you have to put yourself in a position to be in the best car & generally you don't find yourself in the best car unless your at least capable of poles/podiums/wins. Additionally even if your in the best car that doesn't guarantee that your going to win regularly let alone contend for a WDC because you still have to get the most out of the car & drive well & consistent enough to put yourself into & stay in the title hunt to the end & as many decent/good drivers have shown over the years not everyone is capable of that.

Looking at this year it is true that Lewis has had bad luck with his reliability issues & that Nico has benefited from that but even then Nico drive flawlessly over the 1st few races to build the lead & take full advantage of Lewis' early problems. Since then Nico has made 2-3 unforced errors that have resulted in retirement (Spain) or unnecessary penalty's (Austria & Germany) but apart from those (And I guess his struggles at Monaco) he's done what he needed to to stay in the hunt.

Whoever ends up as Champion on Sunday will imo be a worthy & fully deserving champion who will get my applause, admiration & respect just as all previous champions have & all future championship winners will.

On a side note, I f**king despise this track :yuk:

I'm not hoping for it but somehow I got the feeling that in het end #blessed will win it again. There have been more (non-F1 related) outcomes this year of which my brain said that wouldn't happen, but eventually did.

Does anyone else ever wonder if fans 20-30 years down the line would regard tracks like this sacred like our generation still creams over Spa, Monza and the old Hockenheim for example?

I don't think Abu Dhabi will ever be considered that way but the general consensus may change over time.

I disliked Malaysia's circuit in it's first years but now I think I'll miss it after 2018. Abu Dhabi's circuit is definitely worse though.
