The previous version was clumsy, now it just a run of the mill standard formulaic right left chicane. Nothing more, nothing less.

I liked the previous Bus Stop better than what we have now, the current chicane is rubbish and it's too bad that the straight after it is really straight now.

A lot of drivers I've talked to say it's among the worst corners they have driven on  The way it goes slightly upwards in the little straight between right and left apparently makes it feel incredibly unnatural and nearly impossible to set-up a car.

I can imagine that, even in racing games it feels unnatural.

Never really driven the 2004 chicane, but the current chicane is so unsatisfying to drive, it's absolutely impossible to try and attack.

I'd like to point out that I love the way we've managed to get from a video of David Coulthard driving in a Red Bull demo, to discussing the 1998 Spa crash and now the Bus Stop chicane. This is quite an impressive display of 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon

If this was a totally random discussion thread, I would start talking about "The Following" now

At least the old-new one went the right way (left then right), this new-new one (right then left) is just the wrong way round.

And the old-new one had good moves like Montoya's brave move around the outside of MS in 2004 (we won't talk about what happened on his second attempt :P ), I can't really think of anything remarkable about this one except for Vettel treating his car like a missile with Button as the target...

But oh well, it's one shit part of a fantastic track, lets not focus on the worst aspect and think about all the greatness the rest of the layout brings us :)

I'm happy to have that conversation but I've seen the entire series so don't want to provide spoilers.

The first chicane at Monza and the chicane between the two straights in Abu Dhabi are two others of my least favourite chicanes.

absolutely agree with the chicane at Monza. In the past it seemed like you could just carry speed through the duo-chicane. Now it looks ever so slow. However, it's 'easier' to overtake.

The Abu Dhabi chicane between the straights is indeed bad, but I understand the logic.

I understand why the chicane at Abu Dhabi is there, but it shouldn't be. It isn't like there was a lack of run off, so they had to add a chicane. The track was built from the ground up. If there is a lack of run off, it is there own fault. Abu Dhabi also had the grandstand where the fans couldn't see the track, so it wouldn't surprise me if they really did balls that up like that.

Let's be fair, most of Yas Marina is horrendous.

From a driving perspective chicanes like the one at the Nurburgring, the final one at Canada, Ascari, Roggia, I have no problem with. There was always something quite satisfying about trying to ride the kerbs to get a decent time through them.

according to Motorsport-Total Lotus has a debt of 120 million.
They where banking on Honeywell's money but that deal fell trough. While working on that deal, they rejected other potentials sponsors/investors.

Financial situation could have been the reason that James Allison left

I always liked the old Bus Stop because if you ballsed up the entry you were either in the wall, or actually losing time rejoining the track.

If you want to talk about useless chicanes, the one in Abu Dhabi just before the hairpin is probably the most useless and pointless since Magny Cours's one just after the hairpin in the tracks original guise.

Does Portugal's hairpin count? It was chicane like. And actually worse than those above.

Canada,Spa and Barcelona 1994 don't count, though they were retarded.

I think there is a philosophy behind everything in Abu Dhabi, but it hasn't worked out, at all.

The chicane before the hairpin: allows cars to bunch up and for the following car to run wide on the outside for better entrance and thus exit speed onto the straight. Failed.

The chicane between the two straights: allows the faster, following car to steer out wider in the first part and to undercut back onto the second straight. This has worked, to a degree, with the aid of DRS.

I personally don't like the chicane which follows the two straights, the one where Massa spun last year.

For the rest, Abu Dhabi includes some absolutely ace corners, like the final two.
