Isn't Mario Illien (i.e. the Il or Ilmor) working with Renault?

From what I've understood RB hired Mario Illien to help out Renault but Renault rejected his ideas.

I thought that Illien suggested Renault adopting a prototype that Ilmor had developed, but Renault preferred incorporating concepts from within that prototype into their existing power unit.

Nice, finally lonely-feeling McLaren gets a friend to play with on the track.

I hope not. They must know that even a year old ferrari engin will be better for the next 4 years.

Glad TS goes back to Ferrari. They will likely finish miles ahead in the championship.

What if the fact that 2 more Honda engines are running on track could help improve development?

Even if 3 of them blow up.

Development is the key word. Their start was worse then Renaults last year. Renault is at least reliable. Plus, Mclaren wanted works status. Is that out of the window? Are those changes fir next year that engines can be developed the reason. Sure, Red Bull had no choice, but everbody is worse off. Also Renault IF they eventually decide to do something. Honda doesn't even have enough parts for 2 engines.

So next year, Mclaren, Renault, Red Bull and Manor will be crap. It's like suddenly having 8 Minardis/Fortis/Pacifics on the grid.

Williams will never challenge Mercedes, FI will be the usual mid field as is Torro Rosso. Sauber will stay crap with Monisha. So that leaves us with Mercedes and Ferrari. And the rule changes are not radical, so expect another season like this. Brilliant!

Yes, the next year doesn't look very promising in terms of variety of podiums and wins. Mercedes will have pretty unique 3-year-streak unless Ferrari (Vettel) magically becomes a serious title contender. Even during Michael's and Vettel's domination we had some not-so dominating years like 2003 and 2012. But hey, we may have neat battles for the 13th place, hooray!

What engine will Toro Rosso have?

It would be hilarious if Ecclestone forced Red Bull to take the Honda engines.

Dear lord. Renault with Maldonado and Palmer. And the only good thing about this is Maldonado. Talking about brain fades. Now it just might as well be that the team wont race. It might just as costly....

What a world we live in...

I have no words. Lots of loud shouting noises. But no words.

Edit - in fact this perfectly sums up my feelings right now...

*warning - contains strong language*

Is there any news on Renault? I get the idea that the takeover won't happen. Wouldn't they need permission from Renault. It seems like a silly move, signing Palmer. I would have expected Vergne to have at least a dependable driver.

Sure, you can depend on Maldonado for two things. Money and comic relief.

Yep, you are not the only one. I've felt that for quite a while it won't go ahead and Renault will exit F1. Red Bull declining to take the new engine is I feel the final nail in the coffin.

Unless Renault have been designing their own chassis secretly they would realistically only have a couple of months to design and build a car for next year. I hardly think Lotus would have a highly developed chassis designed for next year when they are fighting creditors off just to stay afloat this year. If so, then Renault would 100% be in the shit next year, as this year they at least have Red Bull to fall back on to produce results or criticise. Next year 100% Renault. Imagine their reputation hit then. Shit engine and shit car.

Sharing the feeling. But it could save RBR and STR in the progress if Renault could drop their French stubbornness for just a second and sell the engine designs to Red Bull.
