Kimi Raikkonen has been given a three-place grid penalty for impeding Nico Rosberg in Malaysian Grand Prix qualifying.

The Australian GP winner had been seventh fastest in the rain-affected Sepang qualifying session.

But his Lotus will now start 10th after he was adjudged to have blocking Rosberg's Mercedes at Turn 14.

Rosberg qualified sixth.

Raikkonen won in Melbourne last week from seventh on the grid.

Optimum strategy according to Pirelli is to start on mediums, run hards for the rest of the race. 3 stops (Lap 9, 25, 40).

or in the case of Webber, 4 stops

there are extra sets of mediums available so maybe someone will try a short stint at the end on them (if there's no rain)

Sepang's always been the toughest circuit for them because of the high loads, and high temperatures. This year it's been exacerbated by the cold temperatures in testing meaning that there's even less data.

I think if you're going to do a 4 stop, you need to decide to do it early in the race and not be caught out between 3 or 4 stops.

its one of the longest pit lanes on the limiter as well, so the time loss is big

If you wish death on a driver, say Kimi at Monaco in 2008, or call someone a 'failed abortion', nothing gets done and no one criticises.

If you call a driver the wrong name as a joke, say Kimi Tarmacadam, you get flamed or even banned.

That's how this place works.

Love you too.

---------------------------

It's probably been spotted already, but Bianchi is being really, really impressive. Doing much better than the other backmarkers and getting much closer to the midfield on merit than any other of the 'new team' drivers, even Heikki. Being at Marussia in a no-pressure is really paying off for him.

Hulk might need to be watching over his shoulder.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Absolutely. 1.6s off of the fastest time in Q1 is hugely impressive. Especially that he felt like there was more time in the car. Starting to feel like an Alonso-Minardi situation already.

Paul di Resta's engineer radioed him during Q2 to say "Don't shake your head at me Paul. We misjudged it."

All is not well in that relationship.

You can appreciate Di Resta's frustration. As the season goes on and contracts for 2014 start to be discussed, if Sutil is hypothetically ahead of Di Resta thanks to these mistakes happening in qualifying and thus limiting Di Resta's chances in the races it will be the Scot who'll suffer. Poeple will look back and accuse Di Resta of being poor against Sutil, they won't look back at the screw ups in strategy made by the team as the limiting factor. Make sense?

It doesn't matter where each of the Ferrari's qualify, (the team makes sure) Alonso will finish ahead of his team mate.

Yeah thanks to Ferrari's amazing strategies. Leave Massa out on bad tyres will do the work.

As it should be.

No, the BBC showed it. Raikkonen and Sutil were blocking the track at Turn 13. Sutil moved over but Raikkonen was on the racing line. It happened before that video starts.

Oh, sorry then, I was told that they were referring to this scene.

I thought Perez blocking Hulkenberg was an atrocious piece of driving, certainly considering how wide the track is.
