That's insane. Most of these ticket prices should be cut in half.

With that said, the race I'm going to on Sunday will cost $50 for G/A. In the grand scheme, the race is nothing. No TV, smallish purse, only one division and 200 laps. At $99 for G/A at CoTA the argument would be you're getting to see F1 and the other supports (assuming there are any) so you're getting a World Championship along with support races so the price doesn't seem so ridiculous. But that $99 does not come with a seat in any of the stands any my $50 ticket does so it's not apples to apples.

I remember going to the 2004 Canadian GP and only would up paying like $200-$250 for the whole weekend including hotel (there were three of us so we split the room.) All series need to wake up and realize that most people are not going to pay these ludicrous prices. Even their diehard fans are starting to stay home.

I last went to a race in 2010 (Spa). If the prices don't drop, or if they don't make it better value for money (more support races, pit lane/paddock access, camping included), then I can't see myself attending another F1 race ever again. That's quite sad to think. Another problem that I find is how far away from the track you are, because of the miles of run off on F1 circuits. Silverstone is a very dull place to go and watch a race, especially if you like to take photos. Brands/Snetterton/Oulton Park give you a much better sense of speed and allow you to get very close to the action.

Le Mans, BTCC, British GT... Even a trip to the Indy 500 or a NASCAR race. All of those are higher on my list of events to go to.

they should use logic for ticket prices

-charge less and hope for a good crowd and therefore a good income
-charge more and more to keep the people who likes it away and put only a few people in the crowds

you could do the same logic with football, with latter slowly killing the passion for the sport

I found online a ticket for the 1996 Portuguese GP and a 3 day ticket for the grandstand by the chicane was 85 Euros. So prices haven't changed that much since the mid 90's.

2005 was the last time I went to F1 in Spa. Never again. The price + restricted access combo is so crowd-unfriendly, especially if you're used to being able to go and stand wherever you want for a fixed price (I can live with paying extra for paddock, but that's not even remotely available with F1)

Instead of purchasing an expensive F1 ticket, save the money and get yourself a nice television set. You will see it much better than in person.

I'm actually not complaining about ticket prices. If booked early, it's 110 euro for the weekend, I remember 5 to 10 years ago it was much more. It is still F1, the most important event of the year. And yes, it is slowly losing out, WEC is cheaper and more accesible, but F1 is what is getting the most media attention. It is still the biggest. If you go to the Champions league finale, you expect to pay more than for a cup match.

It's not to do every year, and they can improve the show and give better access (they already try on Thursday), but I can't complain. I choose a campingsite away from the circuit and bring enough food for a picnic, there are places where you pay more for a 4 day out in the Ardennes.

Francisco Santos (portuguese motorsports writer that did yearbooks for portuguese countries) complained back in 1990 that crowds in Jerez and Estoril were too low due to abusive ticket prices, that attendances in those tracks would be fair higher at the time if they set better prices

Looking back at older tickets, I only paid £90 for a general admission ticket (for all 3 days) at Silverstone in 2004. I have a £30 grandstand ticket for Saturday in 2000, but that might be a child price as I was under 16.

400 Euros for a race day ticket at Monaco in 2008 (Swimming Pool stand). Can't afford that kind of money anymore. :(

Another thing that annoys me is F1 testing. I remember my dad taking me in the late 90s. It was free entry, and I'm sure we walked the entire circuit. I went again around 2004/2005 and they charged you to get in, and then restricted you to about a third of the circuit. There was barely anyone there in the 90s either. Must have been one of the best kept secrets.

I went to pre-season testing at Barcelona in 2008 and we paid 6 euros for entry and all grandstands were open and saw the whole track during those 3 days, great experience... That's why i only visit practice days the last years at Spa... Affordable tickets and more 'freedom' to walk around the track and sit and the action wherever you want. If only they opened up all the grandstands during friday f1 practice for general admission tickets. This year they were almost empty

Yup! When they used to test I went to Monza every single year, sometimes twice a year (they always tested the week before Canada and the week before Monza). For 5 Euros you could walk the entire track, the Marshalls opened the fence and let you behind the guard rails if you were nice. That was from 2002 to 2006. And in the evening you just climbed a fence, walked a lap of the track and then into the pitlane and watched the mechanics disassemble the cars. I've only been to a race weekend once, and that was a Friday in 1999. That was enough to keep me away from race events. I don't intend to visit any more races, especially also because the sound and atmosphere got a lot worse in 2006 with the V8 and even more so with the new power units.

Actually this is about the sole income the circuit receives.

This is basically Silverstone's approach, but even with c120,000 it's tricky.

Their expected departure will be all the more galling for Ron Dennis, the McLaren chairman, given they offered at the end of 2013 to become the team’s title sponsor in a £43 million-a-year deal.

Ron deserves what's coming to him at the end of this year for that piece of stupidity alone.

I paid $230 for a 4 day grandstand seat (+$50 paddock access) at the V8 Supercars Clipsal 500 event this year. A bargain price for the amount of things to do on and off the track.

500 Euro for grandstand seats at Spa

for national racing series here you'll get a paddock pass for less than 80 euros

the cheapest ticket for F1 in Interlagos available now is 190 euros and you can only stay on that temporary grandstand at the backstretch
