I still have hope. No, things don't look good, but I still have hope that Schumi can heal to the point where he can have a good quality of life.

just read he is responding well to the treatment, and doctors will try to awake him.

that would be great news!

which is what we would call a 'quality newspaper'.

Original source is l'équipe though.

According to l'equipe he responded positive on the awakenings procedure. But sources around Michael say this is pure speculation...

Wouldn't believe such a thing until those treating him say it themselves.

Yep.

A significant change in his condition is what I believe they said. So if there are a bunch of small improvements/changes on a day to day basis (which is very likely could've already happened), they aren't going to notify the general public on those things. The news report stated that the gradual waking process has begun this week and that he is responding well so far. As already mentioned, that has to be taken as a rumor/speculation (albeit a positive one) until any official update is received.

The other thing to note is that Sabine's latest statement is clearly worded very carefully. She only points out that messages not from the team treating him should be treated as speculation and doesn't mention whether or not Michael's condition is the same - or, to put it another way, she hasn't denied that he's improving, especially in light of these reports that one of the surgeons has confirmed it. I'd say that's a pretty fair indicator that this is happening

Michael's management team have always kept things very quiet, and he has always shut the media away from his family. This may just be a continuation of that. I think it may have got to the point where some of the newspaper reports may be accurate and that we're not going to get any concrete information if we're going to ignore everything apart from what Sabine says. Obviously the totally speculative tabloid reports should be ignored (i.e. those with the opinion of an expert who has very little connection with the case) but the leaks to L'Equipe or Bild may be genuine

It's not for me to encourage people to believe the tabloids, but it's worth remembering about how all the tabloid reports about the seriousness of Kubica's condition were officially denied but it later turned out that they were all totally true and it was actually touch-and-go for a while. Not all of what they say is scaremongering nonsense

Encouraging news. I'm still tempering my expectations. Not going to expect any sudden groundbreaking developments but at this stage even little minor victories on a daily basis can only be seen as a positive on a long road ahead to recovery.

This news seems official:

http://www.repubblica.it/sport/formulau ... ef=HRERO-1

The text says that Sabine Kehm has released a note saying that the artificial coma is being gradually reduced

i think they want to be sure that if he wakes up they have enough time to understand what damage this incident has produced to his personality. They dont want to say "he is awake, he talks, he rocognizes everyone, he can speak he can walk and than after a month they discover he thinks he is a Japanese or a Chicken.

Or a Vietnamese prostitute who excels at rodeo? ;)

Seriously though, this is not how coma works. It' not like waking up from bed in the morning, and certainly not like in movies where he opens his eyes and starts immediately asking what happened. Anyway we'll wait and see, at least there is progress.

I remember reading in a book that Mika Hakkinen could not talk when he woke up, but one of the first things he did was the walking gesture using his fingers on his chest. The doctor understood his question and nodded "ok" to him, then Mika went back to sleep.

Sky suggests that Michael is responding to instructions.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

another useless information. What kind of instruction? could be "Don't open your eyes and stay in bed" for what they know

Hartstein blogged about this a while ago but I suspect they are probably using the GCS to evaluate his responses: http://formerf1doc.wordpress.com/2014/0 ... h-of-coma/

He is supposedly able to blink when asked, according to l'Equipe.

Interesting and encouraging nonetheless. Curious to know about how his speech & motor responses will be like...
