I miss the old double first chicane at Monza.

Is it just me, or is the Lotus a really odd shape.....

Yeah the rear end looks a bit disproportionate. That’s probably due the heavy and big Mugen Honda engine. The 1992/3 car had a smaller rear end.

I think that's the 1993 car, Lamy had the onboard cameras at his home race in Portugal (the camera unit on the right hand side of the car is the transponder unit for the helmet facing cam)

Plus one for new Monza chicanes being something else that killed F1.

Yes you’re right, the ford logo is even visible at the back. It’s probably just the photo angle that makes the look odd. Other angles are more flattering.

Add it to the list. The changes in the amount of run off (and it's all tarmac now) to that area of track are quite striking. The first picture makes me remember Fisi's accident in the '98 race.

The first part of the chicane looks pretty unsafe in that picture. Some strong contact or loss of control and a car would wipe out the marshall's post and their deck chairs.

The new layout gives good overtaking opportunities and has provided some decent drama

You are right, but it seems to me that huge high-speed contacts were much rarer back then that they are now. It seems that drivers really feel that they are, and the tracks are safer now, so they go harder and closer on each other at high-speed areas, resulting in Verstappen/Grosjean at Monaco, or the Frentzen/Trulli pile-up at Monza - which is the kind of dangerous accident you're talking about. Back in the 1980s to mid 90s, except in freak situations or huge misunderstandings, they were more cautious and more wary of each other during battles until they reached low-speed corners.

I remember in the first chicane in Monza 1997 with Herbert and Ralf Schumacher tangling before the brake spot and causing some dangerous situation. a few years before that and the outcome could be tragic

That engine cover looks like something of a 1989 car.
