Now they just need to reduce the ticket prices and think about some tracks from the proposed FOTA Schedule, et voila

FIA president Max Mosley has said he will not stand for re-election after claiming an agreement has been reached with Formula 1 teams to avoid a breakaway series.

Mosley had said this week that he was left with no choice but to run again following what he called an attack on the FIA's right to regulate the Formula 1 World Championship.

But he revealed after today's meeting of the FIA World Motorsport Council in Paris that a deal to avoid a split has been reached with the teams.

"There will be no split," said Mosley. "We have agreed to a reduction of costs. There will be one F1 championship but the objective is to get back to the spending levels of the early 1990s within two years."

Thank goodness for this. I would have liked the new series but Max Mosley going is much better.
Hopefully they bring in the right man for the job.
Any predictions?

sounds like Mad Max is stripped of all his power and is allowed to stay in office for the outside world so he wont look like a complete fool.

I really doubt he has any say left after today.

Best possible news! Thank God they found a solution, and Max leaving is a nice bonus. :flag:

Just drive the Bloemendaal road and you're in Haarlem after 10 minutes (srsly, you will be surprised how empty it is). Much better than moving 10 meters in 3 hours when you drive through the center after racing events :p

Indeed that is the best way to follow but there will most likely be a traffic-jam if F1 ever goes to Zandvoort again.

I'm very happy with this news. Hope the FOTA calendar was part of the deal though (+spa)

I knew this would be the result. FOTA was just threating. Although i still hope they get rid of all the Tilke tracks :yuk:

I'm so happy right now :) I always hoped that F1 would stay together but that wasn't very likely anymore...

A result as expected, hopefully part of the deal is to drop the races at tracks were no one comes to see it and go back to tracks like montreal and indy.

I wonder if they will hire Jean Todt for Mosley's place. For sure it's going to be a person who can speak french, at least I believe so. But if Ari Vatanen would be candidate for the election, I would love to see him on this position rather than Todt. Ari has political career, he's popular name in France, he can speak the language and knows something about motorsports. I know it's not likely going to happen, as I'm almost sure that Vatanen has said that he's not going to be have a campaign for FIA presidency. But that was said before the EU elections...maybe he could change his mind now after he lost his place over there.

Also, Vatanen probably wouldn't be as biased as Todt might be...and definately is better than Flavio...

Part of the settlement package includes a retention of all 2009 rules.

If that is the case, then can they please drop all the tracks such as Silverstone where it is impossible to pass on the track and please add in some circuits which actually have braking zones, whether they be new, old, European, Asian, American, whatever.

FEI, FOTA never had a calendar, the "calendars" that were proposed were the pipe dreams of motorsport journalists.

About the circuits issue: Don't forget F1 is still a business. Max will leave, but Bernie and CVC will stay and they don't care about how good is a circuit, they only want more and more $$$.

I expect improvings in how the new rules are defined, changing from a dictatorship by FIA to the agreement with the teams. Also I hope improvings in the way stewards act in each GP (latest 3 years were horrible)
