Let's enjoy it because they might start coping each other or a dominant team after 3 months.

Vettel appears to have reverted to his 'normal' helmet after BWT's departure.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I'll take it, a lot of other things have been fixed it seems. These cars look slick.

What about the excessively high front wings? It looks really awkward. Unless that's just a launch thing for the show cars.

I´m gonna need some time to get used to the new colours of the McLaren. The Gulf Monaco edition was nice, this one is... weird.

Bahrain - Lewis is allowed to gain an advantage from track limits 29 times before being warned. This likely won him the race. Either everybody should have been told that they could do this, or it should have been a warning after the first couple of times. Not a great decision.

Thinking back on this one now it's an interesting case study

FIA put notes in their pre-race track guide that they weren't going to enforce track limits on Turn 4

Lewis did his homework, used that area of track to full advantage as he was now allowed to do, then Red Bull noticed this, complained to Masi and Masi MID-RACE went against his pre-race decision and suddenly decided they would police track limits at that corner.
Lewis got the call on the radio and drove within the impromtu rules accordingly, but the media and fans still painted it as "Lewis was cheating and didn't get punished" when in reality it was "Lewis was doing everything he was allowed to do, his rival team called on the referees to change the rules to take away an advantage of his, the referees listened to them and immediately changed the rules to suit them"

An interesting precident in not just how the sport was going to be policed but how the narrative was going to be created around it

I still think the worst think Masi or whoever made the decision did was Spa

And i'm not even talking in terms of the championship, all that was secondary to forcing the drivers to run around behind the SC to reach a minimum race distance of a race they had no intention of starting
They basically did what they did solely to ensure they didn't have to give out any refunds for a non-event and deprive people who had saved up a lot of their money all year to see the sport they loved in person of a refund for not getting what they paid for

Yeah, it had a minor effect on the championship and that sucks too, but F1 showed itself at its most devious and least fan friendly that day and it was an piss-poor show from a sport that, frankly, could afford to either refund people's money or restage the event at another time

Rumor is that Aston Martin is considering their own engine program for 2026.

"Nooo Laurence nooo!!"

If Audi does team up with McLaren that would only leave Williams as customers for Mercedes.

Putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 but also wondering if this was the 4th potential engine manufacturer mentioned in the Indycar thread as the engine rules for Indycar and F1 won't be a million miles away by 2026 :whistling:

After seeing the first pics of the Aston on track, my initial thought was that it looks like a supped up Super Formula Car (Formula Nippon for us old school fans)

What are they for exactly? I mean, at least they are not covering the wheels completely, so we can still expect flipperz after wheel-to-wheel contact :p

My biggest fear is that someday F1 is gonna look like Formula E. Ugh.

The first time F1 has a serious crash (injury or even worse :( ) that is as a result of Wheel to Wheel contact they'll go screaming towards wheel covers as their latest "sticking plaster over wound" solution

Indycar did this when the actual problem was the negative rake they were forcing the cars to run causing them to fly further and higher than any other race series when they had wheel to wheel contact, even though cars still managed to clash wheels and take air with enough of a hit, only you're adding extra debris to fly around and potentially injure people, which also happened on a couple of occasions

It's called open wheel racing for a reason

Saying that, these little aero rakes aren't so bad to my eyes....if they have an effect of cleaning up the air for the car behind and pushing the dirty air further out than before, then they're ok by me

Looking at it, seems like a key rule to make the cars able to better follow each other.

The cars are Ground-Effect, so the air has to go underneath the cars to produce downforce, as most of the aerodynamic grip is gone now. That's the reason the front wings look so weird, or as I would say "crap". From the side these new cars look really good but the front is absolutely ridiculous.

They've been high like that in the past. At least on the ends, it was low in the middle and the wings were narrower. It was when they went to the snowplough front wing for '09 that they went low.

It used to be "open-cockpit" was also implied in the name, but it's less and less the case - it's zero the case now for Indy in all fairness. Next logical step is to cover those exposed wheels which are a liability for drivers and marshalls/spectators alike.

Next step is racing and watching from the safety of your own zero-miles-per-hour travelling couch. Worked just fine in the first half of 2020, and it was entertaining.
