I'm assuming the only reason Wehrlein isn't staying with Sauber is he's got a seat somewhere else? Hopefully not Williams.

The only way Williams will pick Wehrlein is if they get their engines gratis. Toto made a half-hearted effort to shop Wehrlein around after the Sauber-Ferrari deal went through but Williams aren't massively interested and FIF1 wouldn't pick him even if they had a seat spare.

---------------

I saw a tweet from someone reputable (might have been AMuS again) that Kubica was asking €800,000 for the season. Which is much less than Williams were paying Massa this year.

I think the age factor also goes against Wehrlein. Williams, being sponsored by Martini, needs a driver over 25 y/o for the advertising stuff.

I thought I read somewhere that Martini are open to relaxing that rule if they Williams presents them with the right candidate and reasoning?

Surely Wehrlein wouldn't be leaving Sauber if he didn't have a pretty firm offer somewhere, and they wouldn't be pushing him out? Unless there's something about Leclerc's money or Wehrlein's relationship with Sauber that I'm missing.

Wehrlein is a Mercedes junior, LeClerc is a Ferrari junior. Sauber has been a Ferrari customer for years and for 2018 onward has an increased technical and financial relationship. The writing was on the wall for Wehrlein a long time ago.

Can't remeber anything of this, but makes sense if you consider his name was rumored as a candidate for the Williams seat.

Thing is, this is a legal matter more than a wish from Martini, and having Stroll and Wehrlein as their drivers would mean Martini couldn't use the image of none of their drivers.

TBH, I'm not really that impressed with Wehrlein. But I could be wrong and the car was soo shite it couldnt show his true potential.

It's worth remembering Monisha Kaltenborn left Sauber after disagreeing with current team owners regarding drivers status: She wanted both Wehrlein and Ericsson on equal conditions and the owners wanted Ericsson to be favored. Pascal's performance actually dropped after Monisha left the team.

F1 Fans: too much dirty air from your high downforce rules has ruined the on-track racing, want to maybe take a look at that?

FIA: I know! We'll change the tracks to make for more racing!

F1 Fans: No, change the cars, not the tracks...

FIA, Nahhh, it's the tracks at fault, lol. Maybe Joker Laps or something is a better idea?

F1 Fans: :slaphead:

This is an interview with Ross Brawn, who is not an FIA employee.

Why do you blame the FIA for Liberty's ideas?

Ross Brawn has really drunk the koolaid hasn't he? You'd think with his pedigree he'd be the one person to say nope the cars are what need fixing, not the tracks (well apart from a couple).

Much as he does seem to have had some good ideas, I'm not convinced that it's a good idea to entrust the sporting wellbeing of the sport to someone whose job only ever involved making one pair of cars more competitive than the others. Gary Anderson has been shouting the right things for years about what the cars need; they should put him in the seat just so that someone who hasn't come directly from the pit lane can add some perspective.

FIA doesn't like entertainment and fun, FIA just pleases itself on ruling motorsport with no opposition

I mean, it *is* the governing body of most of motorsport. It is kinda supposed to rule motorsport.

I don't know, they should run more polls and take them seriously, instead of just making fan polls for the sake of it

, but Seb put two wheels on the grass!

Also reminded me of the 2009 GP when Alonso KERS'd Webber along the main straight, again two wheels on the grass, but Webber immediately did the switch back into turn 1 and retook Alonso.
