In France last news say that D8 will show the races and Canal+ (paying channel) the free practices and qualifyings but nothing official for the moment.

You know news are really different from days to days right now.

But it's amazing because the situation should've been cleared since mid september.

I reckon that Bernie might wait to see which channel will get british soccer rights by mid january.

If C+ loses premier league i would'nt be surprised to see F1 completely on C+.

But i would rather see F1 staying at TF1 in case of normal situation. (Premier League on C+ and so on).

Time is ticking for Bernie.

And no GP either....

Does France just care less about the sport these days, or do you reckon they're holding out for a last minute cheap deal? :?

Sorry for late response, but as far as I heard from French people that I know, the sport was never really THAT popular among Frenchmen, even in Prost era and etc.

Something for Sky haters to point and laugh at:

BBC F1 Season review: 1.33 Million viewers (11% share).
Sky F1 Season review: 13300 viewers (Xmas eve airing was highest).

In the interest of fair play, it's worth pointing out Sky aired the review 16 times, in the period of calculation.

...to a total of 96000 viewers.

I watched sky's with nea Xmas eve. All chat and no footage. It wasn't really race to race, more a chat about the year gone by. Found it by luck, I watch sky sports and saw no adverts for it. They are doing shows on future f1 drivers which looks good. I taped one and saw a bit of another, looking at the kids in formula Ford and other such levels of racing.

Even though I despise the people that own Sky, I guess we should be thankful they have someone there who is a reasonable fan of motorsports as those figures combined with the subscription income fall way short of anything realistically viable, any mainstream channel would dump the coverage now tbh.

Wonder what Sky's figures will look like when they are forced into charging for the F1 channel.

This is based on their season review, at this time of year I doubt they are too worried about figures. During the season is when they will want viewers as this is prime advertising time.

I doubt they are worried at all, I think the biggest rated race was a few hundred thousand at most, if they were worried they'd cancel or give the channel away for free.

They do charge, think I worked it out at minimum £28 a month to get it (base pack + HD box + HD subscription).

Details on Sky Italia's coverage from DigitalSpy:
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost ... count=1933

Quote:
News from Italy, we have elements of the lineup that will call races on Sky Sport F1 HD Italy:

Jacques Villeneuve will join the team as a pundit.
Marc Genè will be back on Sky Italy as the analyst alongside Carlo Vanzini (pbp guy).
Sarah Winkaus, from Sky Germany, will join the team in a still unknown position (my guess is that she'll have the Tamara Ecclestone role and do pieces about culture, gossip and so on).

There will be interactivity, announced is a multiscreen with 9 channels
-World Feed
-Driver Tracker
-Live Data
-Pit Channel
-Onboard mix
-2 additional onboard channels (one of the 3 onboards will always be "on the leader of the championship", whatever that means. Unless it's a typo and they mean "leader of the race").
-Highlights channel
-Quad Mix (World Feed, Onboard Mix, Live Timing, Driver Tracker).

available for all live sessions.
GP2, GP3 and Porsche Supercup races will be broadcasted live (i guess alongside qualifying and maybe practise, but we'll find out).

There will be historical races shown (as a matter of fact, from March 7th for the whole pre-Australia week they will show historical races) and races live will have a 60 minute buildup.

As far as FTA rights there still is NO announcement regarding rights.

The charge is part of the larger package though. It's the minimum sky pack with hd. It's not free view but it ain't an extra charge on the sky hd pack.
