Monaco looked much narrower in the day. Plus taste lock ups at Mirabeau and Noghes

You can't just get rid of Mazepin for his comments and then go to GP's such as Saudi Arabia, Russia, China and Bahrain lol.

Hypocritical much?

They expect the host countries in question to hide their dirty linen from the F1 circus, so it's a small thing to expect the same of the teams I guess.

One is the choice of the team, the other is the choice of the F1 organisation. Or do you expect some teams just saying "fuck it, we're not coming" (which they probably legally can't do because of their contract with F1)?

I doubt there's anything in that Haas contract saying they can dishonor it.

the criticizm is well deserved and necessary. i'm glad people are willing to have dialogue over these issues of injustice, as uncomfortable as it is. however, if we excluded the countries you listed from hosting f1 venues because of their corruption and abuse, we would have to include brazil, azerbaijan, the united states, turkey, and to some extent every country remaining on the list.

since formula 1 and the presence of motorsport does not directly facilitate the major injustices perpetuated by many of these nations, i think it more important that formula 1 as an organization act as an ambassador to influence these corrupt power structures in a positive way. for example, i see more value in f1 pressuring a host country like saudi arabia to give women the right to legally drive in their country rather than to snub saudi arabia and lose that influence. the drivers have collectively done a lot to create a sense of compassion for human rights within f1. that influence being present in these nations of oppression creates a sliver of opportunity to undermine that corruption. as small as that influence is, i feel it is an important one; and one that has more of a lasting impact on the people subject to that oppression, as opposed to simply refusing to race there.

it's a debatable position, and certainly a gray area. but i'm proud that f1 doesn't just "shut up and drive"

ps. fuck mazepin

The big big difference Scotty is the institutionalization and ingrained social prejudices associated with said countries.

As an Aussie, Australia has in the past committed just heinous atrocities against the native Aboriginal peoples that was institutionalized by the "White Australia Policy". Since that shameful period, the government has moved to reconcile its past (though some would say not enough and a token effort, but a move none the less), and society has "generally" moved on from that horrid way of thinking. I say "generally" because like in every society there are complete racist fuckwits who seem to have the loudest voice and get all the attention.

Now As an Aussie, go out on social media and say you think the Prime Minister is a dickhead. Whilst you are at it, come out as gay....also come out and say you believe in a non Christian God. You know what WON'T happen to you? You WON'T end up in a "Re education" camp for not sucking the PM's dick, or believing in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. You WON'T be arrested or stoned to death for "Sin's against God".

Guess what happens, is happening and will continue to happen in those countries we are talking about? ........Yeah.........because all that shit is officially institutionalized by governments and has no will of the people to overturn that line of thinking.

So yep, pretty much every country has and will commit heinous shit. The difference is that some of those countries institutionalize it. Hence why we say F1 shouldn't go to those countries.

Go to this website - https://www.hrw.org/countries

Look up a country that hosts a grand prix and you'll find a significant human rights violation. Australia, Netherlands, Japan, Monaco, USA, all of them. Not just the middle east, China and Russia.

That whole "we shouldn't race in Middle East because ..." "F1 needs to take a stance and ban ..." no fuck off. If it truly made a stand, there would be no races left.

You can't compare present day China/KSA to somewhere like present day Netherlands. Come on now...

Does Australia still detain migrants on a remote island and make it conveniently difficult for media and human rights organisations to get a pass to visit it? :whistling:

Scotty has a point, tbh. Most of the countries hosting GPs have serious human rights issues just behind the curtain. No, most aren't on the scale of China, but some - like the US, with literal concentration camps for refugees, industrialized prison system, and commercialization of being ill - have enough skeletons in their closet that they're happy to deflect the world's scrutiny.

my opinion is that a country where there are no human rights must provide a hell of a race (rate 8 or better), and if they don't their fee will be doubled for the following year (but this money must be used for campaigns on human rights and not to fulfill the pockets of shareholders)

People have wanted drivers to be personalities and more like James Hunt. Now give Mazepin a chance to rise and shine. :p

I guess if this incident happened two or four years ago, the odds of Pietro taking Mazepin's seat over would be higher. But with our currency worhting nothing, Russian money will be more welcome than Brazilian money.

What can Haas do, regardless of the money they may be getting from Mazepin?

What if there isn't a breach of contract? Or if no one pressed legal charges?

There only is a video of him groping a girl, and said girl saying they're close friends and it was OK.

Terrible PR for the team, yes. Mazepin is a big fucking asshole, yes. But I don't think he should be kicked out, just to concede to the social media cancel crew.

If this isn't the so-called cancel culture then what is it? Wanting a person to lose his job for a wrongdoing by using a hashtag campaign. Only a judge can decide an appropriate penalty, never a society. No judge would allow social media influence his or her decision. And after a penalty, no one should be penalized again (for example by losing a job). Even if a driver - let's say Norris - murders a person, after spending 10 years in a prison he's a free man and eligible for a seat in F1.

I understand reputation is important when it comes to milllion dollar business, but if reputation (which is nearly impossible to redeem) acts as an additional penalty, it's really against our justice system. And violating justice makes me angry :x .

What did Mazepin do actually? Is this still about that video, or is it more than that?
