Not a Max fan, but power to him. The whole thing sucks on the scheduling/running side of it.

But I can't fault the visuals and the ambiance.

Hell, I got excited enough to buy a copy of F1 23 on sale this weekend, just because, and that's saying something.

I still don't get the intent behind the late schedule of the sessions. I thought they were trying to lure in American fans? But it seems like they're trying to cater to the European time zone. Well, no offence but I don't think that should've been their primary goal. Scheduling this event at prime time would've probably brought in a lot more American viewership. And lets be honest, the Vegas lights would've looked even better at dusk.

Max said something like: the people that show up don´t care about the race. They come to see a show, like they want to see their favorite artist. These fans no longer understand what the concept of racing is, it´s just a night out with lights and spectacle and music and alcohol. Spa or Monza are about racing, Las Vegas isn´t.

And based on the reactions on social media, an estimated 100% of the fans agree with him and are happy that he said it out loud.

Fuck Las Vegas. Fuck the show. Give us real circuits with real racing and real emotions.

What's even the point of holding a grand prix this weekend. They should've just made it a multi-team demonstration like the F1 Live event in London a few years ago.

too bad the proper Ferrari driver got the penalty

The fact that Ferrari and Haas were so quick in qualifying tells me that they're putting a lot of energy through the tires. In order to get that kinda temperature for a hot lap, to me means the tires will be chewed up like crazy in the race and go backwards.

I'm not sure it even caters for the European market that well. I haven't seen a single second of track action, because I was working through Friday and Saturday's schedule. Can I be bothered to get up at 6am on my rest day? Doubtful.

I'm very keen to see how the race plays out, but it will probably be highlights.

Yeah I don't think the European scheduling answer makes much sense - 6/7am will get more viewers than earlier would, but still much less than a 2pm race would. And if they'd gone with traditional schedules, they'd be racing in prime time for Europeans.

I think they must have thought a night race would look great and decided from that it had to be Saturday night rather than Sunday

A class action lawsuit of $30,000 per each of the 35,000 spectators comes to... 1 billion and 50 million dollars :D seems fair

Any excuse to get free money. I bet those complainants lost more money in the casinos than they did on their ticket. Just move on.

Even if it was Saturday night, it gets dark at 5pm. That would be an 8pm start on the East Coast. Perfect timing. We'd be about 2/3's of the way through the race ad I type this.

I wouldn't doubt part of the reason for the ludicrous start time is avoiding college football. That rules US TV at this time of year on a Saturday. It just happens that a 10pm PST start is 6/7 am in Europe so that was just a convenient excuse.

It's almost 7:00 am here. Some Sunday Australian GP would have been over by now :p
