I find the ongoing discussion about Croft quite ironic as for the past couple of seasons most were calling for him to be promoted from Radio 5 (and commentary from practice sessions on Red Button) to main commentary on TV. Now he's got that role people are complaining.

We're never going to be 100% satisfied. Every commentator has his good and bad points. We just have to accept what we've got or switch to another channel (or forego the live race and download another provider).

Just read on TenSport.com.au that due to a 46% increase in viewers watching Bahrain on TEN compared to Round 4 last year on ONE, Network 10 will keep F1 live on TEN. For those in SA and WA, they will see the race live on ONE as so not to miss out on live coverage.

Unfortunately, this means those in the eastern states will only see F1 in SD while SA and WA will get the HD broadcast.

What are the viewing figures for BBC and Sky for the races so far this season?

To be clear, I think those campaigning for Croft (at least those on Digital Spy anyway) were doing so because they thought it was a straight Legard VS Croft debate (For some reason Ben Edwards going up for the job every time it came up and not getting it made him feel like the great missed opportunity in commentating and it was felt he'd probably never get the job because he wouldn't want to stop doing all of his many other commentaries (A1GP, BTCC, Superleague etc) where he would probably make more than if he was just doing the F1 and the exclusivity clause Bernie and/or the BBC would make him sign. OR he didn't like travelling. OR he'd fallen out with Brundle at some point, we never did quite get the full reasoning )

I was one of the people who pressed the Red Button to switch to the radio commentary but that's because the choice was between 2 people. When Bed Edwards was doing F1 in Cinema I went to one of them and went searching for the torrents of the others because I was so desperate to hear a decent commentator give it a go.

Perhaps its an issue that Sky is giving him too MUCH information to handle whereas on 5 Live last year he had the TV Pictures and maybe the live timing.
His mistake filled beginnings of his Sky tenure have the markings of him looking at either the On-board feed/pitlane feed/live timing/his notes/listening to the producer's talkback/something else and committing the cardinal sin of not looking at the same pictures as the viewer.
Maybe that's why James Allen isn't such a tit any more, who knows.

Still, he's probably still the second best commentator we've had since Murray, he's certainly more bearable than Legard and Allen were, it's more the shoe-horning in of the football talk that got to me on Sunday, I just don't see the logic in that.
Football fans would've seen the match and not needed reminding, fans of both F1 and football who chose to watch the race first and the football afterwards would be mighty pissed off he ruined the result and non-football fans would've been annoyed he brought another sport into a grand prix commentary, as I was.
It's really a lose-lose-lose situation, I can't understand why he did that unless his producer had a gun to his head and was suggesting through his earpiece that some Sky-cross promotion would be a good idea.

As I say, that smacks as more what ITV used to get up to than F1 Digital. And no-one had to pay for ITV's coverage.

Dunno why we didn't try to lure him over here instead of wasting his time on Autosport

Hello guys,

I just have a question for FOM coverage. In "Pit Stop" time display, why sometimes it shows in green and sometimes in yellow? Thanks.

Green is the fastest at the moment. Compared to everyone else, I think.

Some questions for Americans.

I'd like to confirm if Monaco is going to be shown on Speed and Canada on Fox.

Is the broadcasting from one channel different compared to the other one? Is there a reasonable time for a pre-race show?

Post subject:  Re: F1 TV Coverage Thread - BSkyB gets F1

Monaco is on Speed indeed. And the Canadian GP SHOULD be on FOX, with no pre-race coverage at all

Post subject:  Re: F1 TV Coverage Thread - BSkyB gets F1

According to the Speed website they are showing both Monaco and Canada - http://www.speedtv.com/schedule//filter/category/311

Although I remember last year they moved the Canadian race to Fox but started the broadcast half way round the first SC lap. I assume it could be moved again if there is a listings clash.

Speed I believe is a Fox affiliate so the show is no different from one channel to another.

Should have looked there first lol. Then that's great news !

Speed does belong to the same group as Fox. I guess the commentator team is the same for both channels, then. Anyway, it seems when the race goes to Fox the coverage is minimal.

So after 3 months of dealing with the parish council + paying to get a tree branch hacked down that should clear the signal... we still can't get a signal. Sky TV has been beaten by a few sticks and leaves. Just massively pissed off with it all.

tell him to raise/move the dish and do his job properly (or get a 60cm).
Unless you are in a bungalow and surrounded by a 30 meter high fence then there really isn't any reason why you couldn't get a signal, the further away the obstacle is, the less height matters.

My dad is surrounded by trees that dwarf his bungalow, but we still found a good spot to pickup a signal.

Trees are pretty close and very tall. But yeah, I was pissed off that my Dad wouldn't push him further. After all, I think they charge £59 for their service.

for £59 I'd have been there all day fiddling about...

A lot of these guys are subcontractors and don't give a shit really.
