Silverstone was such a mindfuck in the first year.

They should change startlines at ALL the tracks every year. That'll keep it interesting. :p

First one I'd change is Monaco with the startline inside the tunnel. :excited:

At the next strategy meeting Luca Di Montezemolo will apparently be pushing for F1 races to be made shorter :slaphead:

Now which engine was it that was said to use the most fuel? The Ferrari by any chance :whistling:

Yeah Stef, the emoticons you used says it all

After the the completely idiotic double points rule, I don't doubt anything from them now. But this is still far too unfeasible. Every mechanical or electronic part designed for the car is done with the 300km race distance parameter. You simply can't change such thing this briefly, nevermind that if the races would get shorter, tv broadcasters would immediately pay less for it

Montezemelo's been pushing for that for years hasn't he? Doubt it'll get anywhere.

only if him and Fiat group take over control of F1, which is less likely and sounds like doom

Seems as though Haas has been persuaded not to delay his entry until 2016.

According to that article Bernie and the FIA get annual request by new potential teams... Wonder how true that is. Either it's just PR talk or very bad requests.

well according to the article several people/teams inform about entering F1 each year but we never hear of them at all. That the FIA actually mentions Stefan GP means they're more serious than most other attempts.

That's my understanding too. Anything which uses exhaust gas from the engine - turbo, MGU-H, removes energy from what comes out of the back pipe, and therefore noise. This is almost certainly why Indycars are still louder than F1.

Funny you should say that: Melbourne considering ditching F1 for IndyCar

There are other issues here, as our government just voted down renewing the contract for 5 years recently, and IndyCar would cost 8x less a year than F1.

I think its Autosport mag this week that shows F1 is louder than Indycars.

That's correct. In fact the new engines are 11db quieter than the V8s and the Indycar V6s are a few db less than that.

It's the tone, not the volume, low tone noise always seems quieter than a higher pitch tone of the same db.

Personally I don't mind the noise, the cars do sound a bit tractor like in some places, but generally they sound a lot like a sportscar does.

Last week there was an sound analysis on ORF1. The F1 V8 from last year were 140db loud like a fighter jet or rock concert. The new F1 V6 is only 75db loud!!!!

Really?

I can confirm they are louder than 75db!

FIA says last year it was 145db, this year it's 134db (I believe)

Yeh, find somewhere the pre race stuff of Malaysian GP on ORF1 and you will see.
If its 134db why dont pepole wear earlugs when you watch the amateur videos? Would 10db make such a big difference that they dont need them?
So it has to be 75db then... but that was on ORF1

I wonder how the measured that, then. 75dB would mean that they would be allowed to run in Zandvoort or Zolder during sound-limited weekends, which are 100dB. Considering the number of cars that get black flagged during those weekends (even regular street Ferraris), I can hardly believe that digit.

Because the V8's had a high pitch and high pitch sounds are way more irritating to our ears. These don't have a high pitch. That's why these seem to sound that much quieter. It's a bit like having a temperature of 10°C but a cold North breeze making it feel as if it's freezing.

Also a decrease/increase of 10dB makes it sound as if something is twice as loud or twice as silent.

Well considering that the ACO has set a 110db limit for Le Mans regulations and that some cars are still quite loud, I would not be surprised if the F1s were running close to that level or below it.
