I find it funny that dutch fans are eager to give him driver of the race award every race

and yet, I like what Verstappen is doing, could lead to more crashes and safety cars and randomness and stuff

Verstappen drove very well in this race, especially with protecting the inside line into the chicane. At least he doesn't just let guys pass him without a fight.

Verstappen didn't do anything wrong in this GP. Have you seen what Sainz did several times? That was ridiculously dangerous.

Exactly. Sainz's move on Massa was just downright dangerous and I'm surprised that more hasn't been said about it. Max's was firm but fair.

Interesting story from Autobild today.

It alleges that Max's defence against Lewis was examined by the stewards, who then voted 3-to-1 not to penalise it. After the race was over, the '1', Garry Connelly, went to Mercedes and suggested to Paddy Lowe (Toto, Niki and Lewis had all already left) that they could lodge an appeal to try and reverse the positions. The story continues that he was quite forceful in his arguments, and so the appeal was lodged. When Toto found out on the plane, he blew his top and immediately withdrew the appeal.

Again, it is Autobild so take with salt but if there is truth in it, it is a revealing story.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Why on earth would a race steward want to do that? If true that should lead to only one real possible outcome, said race steward being shown the door for political interference.

Indeed weird if you consider why Mercedes would even follow that advice. Very unlikely that it would change the outcome.

Reading the autobild article it looks hearsay and not a solid source.

I haven't seen here what is for me the main issue here. The Suzuka section before the Casio Triangle is NOT a straight, you've just come out of the 130R and there's a curvy line until Casio. That's for me the main reason why the ones in the past were punishable and this one isn't.

As a follow-up to this, three elements of the story were confirmed by Toto today - that he, Niki and Lewis had left the circuit, that they were not contactable before the protest was lodged, and that he withdrew the protest at the first opportunity.
