I don't see why D'Ambrisio couldn't race at Ferrari. He's a decent driver, not the best but I don't think that it's Ferrari's intention to have a 2nd driver who can compete with Alonso. The FI drivers obviously already have a race contract. I highly doubt they want to race just a half season for Ferrari, what's quite possibly. It's easier for Jerome to change teams and it would be a great opportunity for him.

IIRC Boullier had some losses because D'Ambrosio's sponsor failed to pay Marussia last year. It would be a good chance to Boullier to get something back from Jérome after such a bad year.

It's not as ridiculous as it might sound. As Rudy says, the other candidates have contracts which makes it a little more awkward. Sutil would probably be the best choice though. He drove pretty well last season and it was a shame to see him out of a ride.

I'm Belgian so I'm also automatically a pessimistic skeptical bastard :p

Although I do think that he's currently better off as third driver at Lotus than being drafted in mid-season in a team like Ferrari...

Lotus needs funding so there is a benefit to them by loaning D'Ambrosio, and it's not as if he can do much worse than Massa right now.

Jerome D'Ambrosio doesn't make sense to me in any way. He didn't look special on his way up and didn't look like he was worth keeping in the second Virgin either. I honestly can't see why you would take him over Sutil or Jimmy A (unless his 5Live contract can't be bought out) or even going out on limb, Heidfeld, if you just want anyone else, but Massa in the seat.

Alg would probably have a clause that lets him out of the contract if he gets a drive.

The truth is that while Alonso is doing well, no matter who's in the second car, they really don't care. So it's really questionable whether Ferrari want or not to replace Massa.

As if that was not enough, Massa is a complete idiot himself because he shows a complete lack of personality, shows complete indifference to the fact he's humiliated by Alonso and looks accommodated in his comfort zone. He doesn't seem to be someone who strives for his honor. If only he had a zeal for his image as a brazilian latin-american who struggles for a triumph till the very end (perhaps he could be more respected as a sportsman). You don't even need to win, but show some attitude. Take the examples of Roberto Moreno, Alex Dias Ribeiro or even Wilson Fittipaldi: three widely respected sportsmen, never won in Formula 1, but the three have more than double the respect Massa has ever had in F1 so far.

If I were responsible for Ferrari and the team can't fire him (whatever reason there is), I'd drop dramatically his salary bill....like, you receive the amount of money you deserve. Then it's only up for Massa revise his own concepts and decide whether he stays or go.

If Ferrari are smart they'd go for Algersuari, since he's being a tester for Pirelli and all that.

Bingo: free tyre data.

Massa won't be going anywhere until the end of the season I reckon. I don't really understand dropping him to get someone like Sutil, D'Ambrosio who would be just as bad as Massa is looking. The only understandable way to drop Massa and have the slitest difference is to get Algy because of the Pirelli testing he does. Apart from that it's a loss loss.

By the way why are both FI drivers in contention when Bianchi, a Ferrari Junior Development driver, not in contention? Would it be to get Bianchi a seat in a FI? Only way i see that understandable...

Because throwing Bianchi into that F2012 would be a career crippling move.

Bianchi tends to hit things quite often. Giving him his first chance at Ferrari would indeed be stupid.

Perez to Ferrari and Guttierez at Sauber would be a perfect fix imo.

No, keeping the status quo until 2013. It won't be beneficial for anyone to join Ferrari currently.

After what happened to Grojean and Badoer in 09 it's become very risky to bring in people half way though a season

Standards are too high now to give drivers half seasons and what not. It was possible when standards were lower, and drivers could have months and months of testing, but now that doesn't work.

I can see the sponsor having a hissy fit over Massa's performance so kicking him out would please them
And if his replacement also sucks they can play the "told you a new driver needed too much time to adjust"-card.

I can't see it being Alguersuari either, the two don't really like each other.
