Sky will cover the races with 5.1 Dolby Digital sound.

I should hope so to, BBC was 5.1 last year.

I was considering getting Sky Go on my laptop with a monthly ticket, as I'm not a Sky customer, but I don't think I could watch Formula One that way because some things get 'blacked out'.

I don't believe the BBC F1 coverage was ever 5.1.

Sky's press release also says there the 1st in the UK to offer 5.1 for F1:

I'm in the same boat as you, so I went on the Sky website and asked one of their "Chat now to find out more about our products" people and they told me the F1 channel would not be available on Sky Go...

My TV reported it as 5.1, which it doesn't always do with BBC programs, but that's beside the point for me, it could be in 4D video with 16:1 sound and I still wouldn't fall for their party lines.

Sky Germany were broadcasting F1 in 5.1 last year as well. But as it is: everything can be 5.1 but it doesn't mean it is real 5.1...

What? Not on Sky Go? Thats the only reason I have Sky Go for now.

True, but really the sound is not a consideration in the decision making process for me, it could be mono and I'd still subscribe - if Murdoch wasn't involved.

Just to clarify, you don't need Sky HD and Sky Sports do you? One or the other will suffice won't it? I'm already stretching to afford Sky Sports. Can't really justify HD as well.

You just need Sky Sports.
