Surely they'll put a barrier in front of that castle? Not that I want them to because it looks awesome the way it is, but I'd be amazed if they didn't

for "safety purposes" there'll be a double yellow waving there

I did say I thought that section would be a permanent yellow zone but please tell me that hasn't happened? Please?

The whole GP's reputation relies on Rosberg having the balls to return the favour on Hamilton there on the first lap ffs.

They're going full Gran Turismo! You can actually scrap that castle if you're going full Maldonado! 8)

Dude! How many F1 tracks ever had an actual castle as an apex! That's Gold!

Minor fix.

For anyone else reading the opening post and wondering...the race is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

i.e., Asia...not Europe. Baku is farther east than Iraq.

If there was an Iranian Grand Prix they sure as hell wouldn't call it the European Grand Prix.

I mean, I get the irony of that but I was just literally griping about that large-ish opening post full of all kinds of information and yet...no mention of the actual venue.

Love the castle but I wouldn't want to hit the armco there. Not a very likely spot for an impact but they thought the same thing about the tree at Le Mans before 2013.

Dude, did you guys saw how wide an fast the corner leading onto the front stretch it? That will be fun to watch.

I'm already in love with this track, so beautiful and with fast stretches and others with tight corners and also some big braking points.

It should have been called the Grand Prix of the dry oil fields.

It cannot be anything else then mega after such a meh Canadian GP. I hope Rosberg will have finally learned something and has gotten some Eastern European elbow grease and shoves Hamilton in the barriers somewhere. He simply has to do it if he really wants to have a chance on the title. Or, Merc just neutered him again after Spain.

That is insanely tight. Have fun next year when the cars are wider...that's is F1 will be back next year. That's Macao level of tightness.

Will they have a permanent yellow there? I think so.

But it widens some right after and the corners there aren't that hard. Anyway, I really don't want to miss the first practice sessions.

If a corner on a track is so dangerous that it has to be permanently covered with a double waved yellow, how the fuck did it earn Grade I?

Why is it even called the European Grand Prix? Are they obliged to have a certain number of races in "Europe"? Or did Bernie go, "great, the Grand Prix of Azerbia....Azerjibi...Ajerzibi...can't pronounce that Grand Prix of Europe?" Did they skimp out on $90m so lost the ability to put their country at the start?

One rumour I heard was they thought people may mistake it for Afghanistan and wanted to avoid that, plus it is cheaper to host the European GP than it is a national one.

It isn't narrower than the narrowest places at Monaco.

The track looks like an actual street circuit with buildings right along the track. Better-looking than Valencia.

Still looks like the curb is 1 or 2 metres from the barriers :(

Oh the hype. Let's remind ourselves how we reacted at the old TBK before Valencia hosted its first GP:

Don't be a party pooper, JJ. It's going to be a new race and it's ok to be excited. Maybe Valencia is the exception for the rule? And wasn't the last race at Valencia quite OK?

Oh, I do believe the whole weekend (GP2 included) is gonna be something special. But I found it funny that Valencia too was initially considered to be a stellar track, and soon it was the most hated places ever.

A good track is one that you'd miss if it gets dropped from the calendar. Let's see if Baku will be one of those.
