I hope the FIA has been secretly working on Wipeout 2097 technology for next season as the way it's going they're going to have to find a way to hold races with no tyres at all.

From what I heard, only a few teams turned down Pirelli's proposal thinking they could gain advantage from the situation, which teams were they?

If that's true, and if the safety issue was well identified, then it's not just mean: it's criminal.

Tires only blew on some specific cars/drivers and only in F1. Porsche Cup's Michelins had no problem whatsoever with them, not even the same Pirellis on any of the GP2s or the GP3 spec ones

The good thing about this race is that I think Pirelli is on the way out now :)

Much slower cars with much lower loads. Of course they aren't going to have issues.

I hope you enjoy watching F1 cars race on the rim. I personally will find it hilarious.

Why would anyone vote for Vettel?

I voted for McLaren (again no points), Button (too slow, also compared to Perez) and Lotus for the obvious.

Lotus for the obvious reasons
Williams for still having zero points after the British Grand Prix.
Caterham for continuing being like the worst team on the grid, albeit the fact they got Renault engines this year...

Yeah, GT3 Porsches and GP3s are much slower, but the GP2s are not far away from F1 cars. Specially when F1 cars are on high fuel, as on the beginning of the race, when 3 out of 4 of the failures happened. GP2 cars starts the Sunday race with much less fuel, due to short distance race, and have to do 21 laps on single set of tires. Under these conditions, the loads are not very different between a heavy F1 and a GP2 with lot less fuel onboard(quick on cornering and braking=more load) taking it's tires in a longer stint.

Given this is, by far, the motorsport series with most visibility in the whole planet, a tire company will pop up eventually, if Pirelli indeed leaves

Will they though? I know I've criticised Pirelli for some of the races where tyre wear has been too high, but generally they've been very good for F1. What thanks do they get? Just constant bitching from the teams/FIA, and damage to their brand. If I owned a tyre company, there's no way I'd go anywhere near F1.

That's the thing, though, all the other tyre companies have said they have no interest. Bridgestone have no interest. Goodyear haven't been interested in years. Michelin have said they'd only come back if they were guaranteed a tyre war, which the FIA won't allow. The highest-profile company to even consider putting forward a tender for 2014 is Hankook, and they withdrew once they saw how much of a mess F1 politics is.

Pirelli are the only game in town. Sooner or later the teams and the FIA will realise this, and begin to treat them as a partner in the sport as opposed to a whipping boy every time their toys leave the pram.

Yeah, I wasn't counting on any of the 3 giants: Bridgestone/Firestone, Michelin/BF Goodrich and Goodyear/Dunlop. But I just still think that the likes of Hankook, Yokohama or maybe even Continental would take it IF F1 fixed some of the current problems which could lead to some potential damage to the image of the tire company involved.

If Pirelli goes, and this is not certain from what I could interpret from the latest Hembery interviews, F1 would need to rethink and concede certain things. But that would be done, otherwise, there is no racing and because of that we are guaranteed of a tire company supplying F1 because there is so much money involved in the business of this category that they would have to make a very generous offer to an eventual tire supplier if the situation get's extreme.

I would like to see even Avon/Cooper back in F1, but that's not gonna happen in any soon future I guess :p
