In this case mclaren2008 does have a point. Slipstream is far less advantageous for overtaking now that the cars have rev limiters.

Yeah, F1 cars needs more power and less grip.

Right, so make it that each half of the pack gets boost on either one of the straights. ;)

More seriously, it's no surprise that designers will throw the ball at circuit design, the last thing they want is to scrap off the advances they did over the last few decades.

Actually, there are so much flaws in their misleading argumentation, that I wonder if those are really top engineers speaking!!
Some of the tracks they're racing on are exactly the same as 30 years ago layout-wise, but racing has become less and less close.

I have the disadvantage of only having second hand knowledge, but from what I recall, during the 80s and early 90s you might have the top the or four separated by 5-15 seconds and a crapshoot for the rest, I don't see what has changed at all. If anything, I think the spread at the end of the race has gotten much closer from first to last.

But for the most part, I agree, the main problems lie(?) with the cars, not the tracks.

As I said a month or so back, If its totally down to the circuit design's, why does every other series manage to put on good races at F1 tracks?

GP2 for example has put on some real good races at F1 tracks on the same weekend F1 was running there. The 2 GP2 Asia races at Abu-Dhabi for example were pretty entertaining with overtaking & close racing while the F1 race wasn't especially good outside of 2-3 good moments when the cars got close enough to race. GP2 even managed to put on a decent race at Valencia that featured some overtaking.

SuperLeague Formula which have a similar level of power to F1, they managed to put on a good race at Magny-Bores.

The thing that the designers don't mention is just how much the Double Diffusers undid the work the Overtaking Working Group did with the 2009 aero changes. It definately seemed to me that as 2009 went on & more teams started using the DD & the DD became more advanced, the harder it got for cars to follow closely & therefore the harder it got to overtake.

It also looked like some cars were harder to follow than others, those often been the one's with the more advanced double diffusers.

If the cars had less downforce making them easier to follow closeley & if they could make braking zones longer, I'd bet that overtaking would go up on all F1 circuits.

I'm convinced that SLF have made a pact with the devil. How do you have a good race at Zolder? ///////////////////////////////how does an open wheel car even pass there?

The cars are crap and they simply failed this year with the big aero changes. Indeed they're getting desperate, and with the cost-cutting in mind they can't afford it to make radical changes once more.

Get rid of the double diffusers and increase the braking distances (steel brakes?). Make sure ALL or NONE of the cars have KERS. Simples.

Oh, and remove Abu Dhabi, Valencia and Shanghai thanks :)

I say this every time: the cars are fine except for the brakes. They're too good. But its difficult to ban good brakes.

No their not. The diffusers are also to blame.

I agree with Stefmeister. If the track were to blame how come nearly every other series can put on a decent race at most F1 circuits? Valencia and Shanghai aside of course. Just look at SLF, it put on an entertaining races at Jarama and Zolder of all places!

all those other series are basicly spec-races.

Lets turn F1 into spec racing too

Lets put 2005 engines in 1991 cars and use 1967 race tracks :p
