Apparently there will be a trophy presented to the sprint race winner, but in parc ferme only, minus any fan fare.

They should be give a 1/3 scale replica of the winners trophy on Sunday tbh :whistling:

I wonder who'll do the first "Grander Schlem" with FP1, Pole, FP2, Sprint Race and Main Race win...? :?

Don't forget fastest lap point.
I think it's pretty easy to win both races if you qualify well. Just have to have good start twice and dominate. There's no real motivation to try to achive mega chelem, because top positions at FPs don't count (unless QLF is cancelled).

I think the most TBK part of this is that it hasn't even happened yet and has already been comprehensively trashed

It's not just us, most drivers are saying it will be very processional.

Last time they changed something to the format was the QLF with that dumbass coundown system knocking out one car at a time and all drivers and teams predicted it would suck.

It did.

Zak Brown has tested positive for C19.

Also...this is a bit strange to say the least. So they admit they are placing people's lives at risk for research purposes:
Quote:
However, with infection rates in the United Kingdom higher than anywhere else in Europe, this weekend’s British Grand Prix was always going to pose a bigger threat for potential trouble.

The British GP is forming part of the UK government’s Events Research Programme, so will have a capacity crowd.

Silverstone boss Stuart Pringle has said that the idea is for this weekend’s Silverstone race to feel like a pre-covid gathering in a bid to better understand the risks of transmission at large sporting events.

“So, we are legally allowed to run a normal looking and feeling event,” Pringle said. “Because that's the purpose of the research. To see what happens, to learn the lessons.

“What the government is seeking to do is to have a weapon in its armoury that it can deploy later in the year - particularly in the winter, when one might expect a resurgence of a virus - in order to keep sports events running.”

it was 2016. It happened only in Australia and Bahrain, that's why we remember the backlash but not what and when happened

Anyway, about the weekend format, we won't have as much practice, or any practice session on the same time as the race, or at the same time or the qualify session. This may shake things up more than the qual race itself.

FP1 is at 14:30 local time so not massively different to the 15:00 Race start time (BST)

I don't even think that's the first time they tried something new with quali and gave up because it was so bad. I'm sure something similar happened in 2005 and possibly also between then and 2016.

Yeah, the aggregated (no idea about the correct spelling) lap times, one lap on Saturday and one on Sundaymorning.

I think after 2003's 2 day single lap format going well and giving us some great races, for 2004 they obviously had to ruin that by giving us 2 sessions on one day with aggregate times, which felt like it took FOREVER to complete only to give us the exact same grid as we'd expect.

It may have been for Australia only, IIRC

Just realized that if you demolish your car in FP1, and cannot qualify, it's the whole weekend ruined. Unless you manage to gain places in the sprint qualifying, it's a pretty harsh scenario.

but all the starting positions will be defined by sprint race or just pole position?

Sprint race. So if you cannot qualify and start from the 20th place in a Sprint Race, manage to gain only 8 places, it's still a long way to start from the 12th place in the actual GP.
So Friday qualifying IS important.
