While I support F1's new attitude to social media, re-writing history isn't right.

"Epic battle?" Please, I watched that race and the only time anything interesting happened was when M.S. and Alonso went side by side for all of 3 seconds.
This is an epic battle? Please....they were conserving their cars for the overcut at the pit stops, that's all it was.
If this is what people want F1 to be, I give up. :slaphead:

2014. THAT was an epic battle. Plz upload that next FIA

But surely all the brand new fans that this social media strategy must be activating won't know about it

Can't hurt to show it again :p

The cars look ok, but have WAYYYYY too much downforce.

Bring back 1990's front wings

The figures fell becuase now in most of the countries F1 is on paytv. In Croatia it is now on a Tv system where you can get it in the original package, without paying anything, but not all of the people have the same system. When it was on PayTv i never paid for watching it. It is maybe my opinion-I don't pay things I think it's not worth,5€ per race or match is too much for my salary and of course, the race can end up as Australian Gp or something like that-money that I threw on nothing, could just watch the 3min highlights and see EVERYTHING.
Until mid 2000 most of the people here were watching it,and were really interested ,now its just a crap sport where they are driving around, no randomness ,not much crashes to get some results, and bad Ferrari,we are near to Italy.

Germany has RTL ,other then that, i dunno where do you have it for free.

Also, in 70/80 and even 90 you had random retirements. So you could get Johansson in an Onyx on podium, not just the Mclarens retiring.

Agreed, I'm glad F1 listened to you @

. Although I'm a little disappointed that F1 only showed one lap of fighting, considering more happened later in the race.

Still one day to go :whistling:

That race is remembered for Lewis Vs Nico (I don't think Lewis' performance in that race gets celebrated that much, Nico got the preferred strategy and Lewis just outdrove him with pitch perfect car positioning) but the entire field seemed to be fighting for every position that day

It's one of those "entire pack shuffling the deck" races you get occasionally, like Silverstone 2003 and Suzuka 2005.

Also with bonus flipperz

If I remember correctly, that race was the start of the petty squabbling between the two drivers as Nico defied team instructions and turned his engine up later in the race, which Lewis then did in Barcelona, then there was Monaco, then there was Spa...

And then Mercedes stopped being as nice with regards to strategy and started playing it safe...

Welp, it was nice while it lasted.

Maldonado and Gutierrez were the key factors to make that race epic

Hyping is something very common nowadays. It's everywhere, on all social medias and the world of journalist can't be any different.

I don't remember if it was on 2015 or 2016 but I was browsing on motorsport.com or autosport.com to read some stuff of WEC and saw a headline along the lines of : "Hamilton might be the best driver ever" Nigel Mansell.

Everything now must be epic or the best ever, it's our way of living these days, hyping any current thing even if there's nothing special about it at all.

For instance, on the last GP, somebody uploaded Hamilton's pole on youtube with the tittle epic. I posted a comment questioning what was epic about being on pole, while driving the fastest car, beating your team mate by 0.18s. A few hours later, some Hamilton fanboy got buthurt and called me a "hater" for that.

To me, epic is something truly extraordinary and special. Only things like Spa 1998 or Monaco 1996 and etc, deserve to be called epic.

I have big problems with calling Bahrain 2014 an epic or classic race, as well. I checked again the Rosberg onboard and, goodness, how pathetic that is. He was so far behind in the main straight and then DRS ridiculously (like getting a turbo on Mario Kart) allowed him to be able to close up enough to dive bomb on T1 but just to obviously be vulnerable to losing his position once again.

But the fake racing is not the only problem. The car is so damn slow in the corners, it's painful to watch. There was a 2006 onboard battle video linked on the same page(also entittled with "epic") and that is infinitely better than the hyped 2014 one. Everything is better, the sheer speed, the sound and specially the proper racing:

The fact this battle is between Heidfeld and Coulthard and far from P1/P2 will make it be forever overshadowed by the 2014 one, though.

We'll be very lucky if a battle like this happens this week but, if not, at least WEC and FV8 starts this weekend to provide some proper racing
