Show race (only race) live on YouTube. Guaranteed millions of viewers. The main problem is not that F1 is losing old viewers but that it won't get new viewers. How can 5-15 years old become exposed to Formula 1 nowadays? Accidentally seeing it on TV? Nope, no FTA channels. Seeing it on the net? Well, he may come across some crash clips but even those get removed quickly. And I don't think seeing Bianchi injured will get a 10-year-old to want his parents to buy him Sky Sports package. And even if kid's dad watched F1, the kid has hundreds of more things to do with his smartphone or tablet. When we were young there were less distractors, so what we did: we just sought entertainment from TV. |

It should be easily available for all to watch. As JJ said, parents wont splash out cash for a kid to watch F1. That's a problem Ticket prices should be available to the average Joe. Hockenheim couldn't take over the race because the time was too short to sell enough tickets to at least break even on the fee they have to pay to Bernie & co. An average parent cannot afford to take his kid to see a race. Thats a problem. Having 15 cars start a race of something that claims to be the pinnacle of racing is a problem. Also as JJ said, kids are too pre-occupied with their smartphones. Instead of asking a fortune for your app, ask a small fee (99cents) and offer interesting things on it so kids will be looking at these features during the race instead of snapchatting their friends. They should invest in more apps. That Motorsport Manager, mentioned in the general gaming topic should receive an official FIA license free of charge. Let them rise tru the ranks of real FIA series. The current decline in ratings also means the value of ad space will drop like flies. And that means teams like Sauber will have to contract 8 drivers instead of 4 to survive. gaining new fans isn't done by being a snobby, Rolex wearing, elitist. |

None of this should really be a surprise. Spain never embraced F1 until Alonso started performing well. Germany's figures went into free fall when Schumi retired (in 2006). Even during Vettel's 4 year winning period the ratings weren't as high as previously. Then add in the ongoing negative publicity campaign by a lot of leading figures within F1. Nobody in the past 12-18 months has stepped up to champion or be an evangelist for F1. 2014 was an incredible season in terms of racing and drama. Yet here we are and we feel the negativity, some have embraced the negativity to a point where they can't find anything positive to say about the sport. So with all this in mind, and ignoring the fact that pay-to-view seems another big reason for people not to watch, is it really a surprise viewing figures have dropped? Hardly. |

They should lay bad bumpy tarmac on the racing line, and smooth asfalt off line. That way the driver has to choose between smooth driving but slower, or fast and bumpy. Multiple race lines possible! And have one or two years of free, "do whatever you want" technical rules, to encourage the development of new ideas. Like it is now, we'll never get a surprise with six wheels or skirts or a vacuum cleaner again. |

This sport survived and thrived just fine for 60 odd years before they started fucking with the cars to improve the show. Simplicity is what is needed. Throw out all this hybrid horseshit and get back to the business of Formula 1. Brave drivers racing fast cars at ridiculous speeds. The rules, and indeed the whole series, is too convoluted for an average fan to watch or care about. |

Hybrids aren't anything like DRS, they're more like turbos. What's ridiculous is how they are implemented. But the technology is what F1 has always been about. More power, greater advantage, clever engineering. |
