Ferrari in 2016, attempting risky tyre strategies at the races but go conservative with its drivers by retaining an underperforming driver. If they got their priorities around the right way they would probably be doing a lot better.

Or with their recent admission they're focusing more on 2018 including using that time to scout for drivers,.

Must share this great future prediction from 2007 that I found while browsing the old TBK. Although mostly incorrect, I find some points quite farsighted.

Quote:
Formule 1: Back To the Future

It is the quiet summer days when the thoughts of the Formula 1-lover may occasionally want digression. There is gemijmerd about beautiful races in the past, whether there is true reflection on how the sport is over ten years would look like. So why this whole free interpretation of the Formula 1 over ten years. Unfortunately we can not guarantee that it really will go ...

It is 2018 and the Formula 1 has a great period. The races are more exciting than ever and the head of the field is unprecedented wide....
Spoiler:
That all has to do with the regulations that were introduced in 2009. Because the cars by the end of 2008 the most absurd extra wings were, it was decided to aerodynamics drastically curbing. The return of the slicks meant a big leap voooruit in the spectacle on the job.

Who recalls is not that great race in India in 2011? Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica competed there in the last ten laps of the race for the victory and did so as Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner ever did. Each round changed the direction of driver Vettel and eventually won thanks to a masterly inhaalactie in the final bend. These are good times for the sport. Multiple world champion Lewis Hamilton has indicated another two years want to go to McLaren before he throws towel in the ring. His chair will probably be filled by Sebastian Vettel, the Englishman who last season defeated in the battle for the championship and Ferrari as the first title since 2007 concern. With Michael Schumacher at the helm when the Italians are finally back. When Kimi Raikkonen at the end of 2009 stopped the sport and Felipe Massa to Toyota departed, it was downhill with the team.

Fernando Alonso proved unable to make the now quite unreliable Ferrari become more than a few hard-won victories and the Spaniard was constantly quarrel with his teammates. Alonso departed in 2011 and now commentator for Spanish television. Lewis Hamilton he still refuses to speak, like Bruno Senna, which the Spaniard in the Ferrari knew quite difficult to make.
Senna proved unable to follow in the footsteps his uncle to resign, but when it rained, he was always by far the fastest man on the job. If he won a total verregende Grand Prix of Brazil Sao Paulo and he completely on its head. Michael Schumacher took Sebastian Vettel hoogstpersoonlijk for an astronomical amount to Ferrari, the German after many years together with Lewis Hamilton at McLaren fought for the title. The two were surprisingly good, but if the visors were closed, they knew no mercy to each other. The most notorious incident was the collision course in Japan, Vettel won his first title and the times of Prost and Senna herleefden. Despite these two gentlemen collision remained good friends. The summit, as I said, wider than ever.

When Felipe Massa in 2009 came to Toyota, the Japanese finally won their first Grand Prix, which doubts about the qualities definitef Masses in the trash could. The world has never come, but Massa was always to over about half of the year for the championship. The Brazilian has been stopped, but still has an "advisory role" to the team, now with the surprisingly strong Japanese Kamui Kobayashi, who through many wanderings finally came back to Toyota, strong rotation in the subtop. The first Japanese Grand Prix victory seems a matter of time. Then there is the team from Honda, like Toyota a regular meepikt victory. Veteran Robert Kubica drive there for years and there seems no longer to want. Fellow team member Giedo van der Garde has several times been on the podium and fighting with Renger van der Zande for the first Dutch Grand Prix victory.

Van der Zande came after a strong GP2 season, Van der Garde where he succeeded as champion in 2011 in Formula 1. Although he long time was supported by Mercedes, he made his debut in the top class in the team at BMW. Already in his third race was Van der Zande for pole-position, but it racetempo BMW was not enough for him to the victory to help. Van der Zande was then personally responsible for ensuring that the connection with BMW retained the top, BMW has offered him a contract for the rest of his Formula 1 career. A unique story and it is still not known whether Van der Zande will go in there, because McLaren has him a lucrative offer. Van der Garde was allowed during his triumphant GP2-year testing for McLaren and was incorporated by Red Bull, when the Mercedes engines went for the team. Giedo showed very good grasp of the fine Red Bull, and arranged within half years that Mark Webber left disillusioned sport. Honda attracted Van der Garde ultimately with a large amount and to Japan since he already appeared in the second race of the season on the victory by heading off, but a bloated engine caused a broken heart. The two gentlemen are many times more successful than Jos Verstappen ever has been, but there must be a new Dutch talent.

Max Verstappen leads the GP2 championship, after he has become majeure champion in the Formula 3 World Series, the most prestigious Formula 3 class ever knew.If Verstappen indeed the chair at Renault will get it, he became the third Dutchman in Formula 1 and the rivalry will only increase. It is an unprecedented luxury for the Dutch fan. Who will be the first Dutch Grand Prix winner?

Bernie Ecclestone, more active than ever, is already busy with the Dutch government in talks to the Grand Prix back to times on the circuit of Zandvoort, that now has had a significant facelift thanks Herman Tilke. The sport has golden era. Who would have thought that ten years ago, when the scandal around Max Mosley took a bizarre twist when it became clear who is behind the Saturday showdown ...

so Vettel is doing like Alonso, keeping an unmotivated driver as team mate so he could gather all the attention and all the good results. too bad the car isn't finishing races like he wanted

Avain Kimi is marked as unmotivated and slow. He's tied in points with his team mate, four time champion, who has not been dominant against him at any point of the season. Vettel with his move in China has cost Møre points to the team if measuring driver errors alone.

There's no way better drivers available, equal maybe but there's a risk that they break the harmony. 2017 with new regulations is very important season to collect data for development, you need two drivers the engineers know and who can develop it to the right direction, something that Kimi has been doing since 2014. Kimi is doing good job that the results does not reflect perfectly. Therefore he stays.

Casting aside China, Kimi has finished ahead of Seb only once in a straight fight this season. That was Spain. They've both had one mechanical retirement but Seb has retired from two more races, both factors outside of his control (Russia thanks to Kvyat, Austria thanks to debris damaging his tyre) whereas Kimi retired in Monaco due to an unforced error.

I'm finding it hard to understand how it can be suggested that Seb hasn't been dominant against Kimi in 2016.

Yeah, even as a blind Kimi fan, I can see that he is well past his prime, and is being neigh on out-classed by Vettel.

I said in 2013 when the deal was made that this was simply Kimi getting his last paycheck to ride out the rest of his career. He'll do his responsibilities but he's not going to push. He's simply going to ride it out till the end, whenever that may be.

Kimi faster than Seb in all qualifying sessions, fair and square. What was your point again?

That Raikkonen has now been outqualified by Seb 7-3 in 2016

And yet they equal in points. And while it might be 7-3 for Seb, they've been within a tenth or so most of the times, eventhough Kimi has never been good on one lap.

My point is that Vettel is not doing much better than Kimi. And Vettel's mistake in China robbed Ferrari at least 15 points and chance to fight for the win. Kimi has been scoring the vital points for the teamwhen Vettel has had issues.

Monaco was bad for Kimi but on Bahrain and Barcelona easily evens that out. Kimi's been closer to win than Vettel this season, and not only because of Seb's car issues or bad strategies.

Ferrari is looking for good development for 2018 and they don't want any distractions. It's that simple. Kimi gets the job done.

Let's not forget Vettel's engine failure in Bahrain, Kvyat knocking him off the road in Russia and his tyre failure in Austria and several grid penalties have cost him a lot of points, so the driver's standings at the moment don't tell the whole story.

When Vettel and Raikkonen have both finished it is 3-1 in favor of Seb. The 1 is Spain. In those other races Vettel has finished on the podium and Raikkonen 4th, 5th and 6th.

Saying that Raikkonen is closer to Vettel this season is a stretch.
