I think Honda needs a team to become their works effort, much like BMW with Sauber from 2006 to 2009.

And the only team that'd be willing to accept that was, well...Sauber.

Maybe they need to push for a new entry. To be honest, I think (without any proof) that much of Honda's problems are trying to make the power unit blend with the McLaren chassis design.

Aside from the hyperbolic title, Palmer has some good points.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Meanwhile the Ferrari drivers give their full support of it...which isn't too surprising really...

Ferrari just supported so they can put more sponsors in it

just like what Ricky Bobby did it by sponsoring the windshield

I would also like to know if the FIA has done any work looking into the potential consequences of a large piece of debris hitting the halo and shattering.

I remember an incident at the 2015 Singapore GP where Sainz ran over one of the ends of Button's front wing (with all the fancy aero bits still attached) and it came very close to hitting him in the head. If it were to hit the halo instead, where would the (razor-sharp) bits of carbon fibre go?

Apparently junior categories will get halo in 2019. Good god, FIA is actually planning to kill of half of their motorsport classes.
Wonder which sport they ruin next? Probably forbid spectators from attending WRC events (or forcing them to stay 500m away).
With such passion FIA should be concentrating on civilian vehicles and traffic instead, and leave the rules of games and entertainment (what motorsport is basically) intact. I wouldn't want them to be making rules for soccer.

don't worry, FIFA already ruined football by placing world cup with 48 teams and ridiculous demands for stadiums just like FIA do with tracks to concede Grade 1

Sorry, they've already fucked WRC.

Small bits with no weight to them just bounce off the helmet (or even the racing suit). Just like you don't get impaled by flying wood splinters through thick clothes, unless it's a hard and heavy piece already.

Also, a wing is so flat and light and rigid that hitting a halo wouldn't really break it, it'd just bounce off in one piece. I hate the HALO just like any other guy but there's no need to invent crazy scenarios to take it down. It clearly isn't there for small pieces, but big ones like entire nosecones and wheels and arguably other cars. If they wanted to protect from shards, they'd use the screen.

James Hinchcliffe was concussed by getting hit in the head by a front wing endplate at the Indy GP in 2014.

Vettel nearly lost a finger in 2009 at Spa after his glove was struck by a piece of carbon fibre debris.

These things do happen. They are rare, but nowhere near as rare as the sort of scenarios the halo is designed to prevent. And if the halo does end up making these sorts of events more common...is it actually a safety benefit?

Autosport podcast suggests that Ericsson might be on his way towards Williams, his pockets must be as deep as Palmers.

That makes me worry about Williams tbh. Stroll already brings a big bag of money. If they also need Ericsson's money they might be in financial trouble. :(

Add to that they'll be able to modify the halo for aerodynamic advantage.

Anyone who has a 4 year career in GP2 must have deep pockets. To be precise, 30 billions worth of H&M and Tetra pack money.

Fair enough for the rest of your post, but I couldn't help chuckling at this.

I think it is actually the same finger that he waves around when he's won something.

It's like Museeuw slapping his leg as he won Roubaix in 2000.

I thought 2007, definitely in a junior series (Formula BMW?) so not in F1.
