Driver from a particular country doing well = media coverage in that country = popularity. You're being naive if you think it works in any other way. It happens everywhere. Motorsport's always been popular in Britain, but right now it's bigger than it has been in over 10 years. And I can assure you that's down far more to the success of Hamilton/Button than the legacy of James Hunt or Nigel Mansell.

I believe it's normal to have an increased interest because of a successful athlete competing, surely. But, regarding Massa for example, he became reason of interest in a sport that was not new for Brazil and in 2008 he had lots of fans (or people saying so). Most of these people left him behind with these bad seasons and gave up following the sport too.

And yet they still do nothing about that huge bump that causes the cars to swerve on the short straight after casino square on the run down to Mirabeau I know its not exactly a safety concern but it must be a big one to make them swerve like that on a straight and it ruins whatever tiny chance of overtaking you might get there as the cars are too busy wandering around the track to bother getting a run on one another...

Bumps are part of a street circuit. As were the barriers at the first corner and the Swimming Pool chicane. sigh

Oh totally, I guess its just a minor pedantry thing that finds it annoying seeing the cars swerving about in a straight line ruining the 5% chance or so of seeing an overtaking move at the next corner

It's all very well having bumps, but that one was getting silly. Better braking zones meant that they were hitting it and last year we had 4 drivers shunt at that place. I'm all for difficult corners, but the sizeable crashes of Coulthard, Rosberg & Perez suggest it needs to be safer.

That bump always has been there for years. Even it was in the GPL sim! There was a huge bump at the Halfords Corner at the Birmingham Superprix circuit and it became a characteristic part of the circuit. Nowadays the cars have became more sensitive to bumps and they react to it by crashing into the Armco and it had to e fixed.

And I repeat, I don't want Monaco to be safe. I want it to be dangerous. I want the drivers to be afraid to drive around. I don't want people to die or get hurt, but if you must take it to the extreme I prefer Perez crashing and missing a race above a Paul Ricard looking bit of Tarmac where everyone is safe and everybody is happy and everybody can cut the corner or go wide. Don't take the danger aspect away. Not in Monaco, it was already the last place left.

I'd tend to agree with this decision, because unless I'm mistaken it wasn't entirely the drivers making a mistake and then paying it for, there seemed to be a slight randomness to this. However, I'm not a fan of what they did to Ste Devote, the removal of the Loews kerb or the easing of the last sector, though this may have been necessary with the improved pitlane.
