Wtf does it matter whether the entire field is quicker or slower than GP2?

Can't people understand you can't just plug and drive with such new technologies?

Sigh.

Well Fabs, I'd say a conservative guess in that the total money spent thus far by the engine manufacturers and the teams in developing these new engine (sorry "power trains"....) and add on technologies will be approaching half a billion dollars, they have already been up and running on the dynos for a couple of years now at least.

So when this complicated and expensive formula is marginally faster than a lesser, less expensive spec series, I think that reflects poorly on the main prestige series. Now do you truly believe that the FIA are going to allow unfettered development of these technologies, where by they produce their maximum output and efficiency? No. They will, and have, placed very large restrictions on them. So the FIA will actually styme the development of these technologies, and it will be up to other series and the manufacturers themselves to fully develop these technologies away from F1, if in fact they are going to use these in their road cars in the future.
So for all the money that has been thrown at the technology already (only for it's true potential to be curtailed) any and all criticism of F1 only being marginally faster than a lower series spec series is quite rightly justified.

If you want F1 to remain sustainable, then spending £100m to go slower than an old standard chassis, stamped out for a lower formula team, then you better be aware that it really does matter. This situation is not sustainable and we'll lose Caterham Marussia and maybe others, long before they are substantially faster than the GP2 field.

The "power units" of this years regs have little to do with the cars reduced lap times, that comes down to the changes in Aero rules and tyres. Besides, as the leader in world motor sport the series must be at the forefront of new innovative technology, that is one major reason it is the pinnacle in the first place moreso than how quickly it laps a track.

Pastor is 100% sure the qualifying crash wasn't his fault. Presumably it's the circuits fault for having the audacity to have a corner.

That man can never assume responsibility for anything. Didn't he even blame Hamilton for his swipe at him in Belgium? Or was that Perez in Monaco?
