I'm a big Jenson fan but what surprises me is how little pressure Jenson seems to be under despite the poor performances he's put in over the past 12-18 months. And how little pressure he seems to show when outside the car, despite those poor performances. When Lewis was doing badly in 2011 everyone inside and outside the team was wielding an axe. Yet when Jenson was performing pathetically last year, no-one batted an eye lid. Least of all Jenson and Whitmarsh.

Well, I suppose they don't want to admit that they made a mistake in giving him a salary on par with Alonso.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

if I were Mercedes, I'd allow a race to the first corner. Whoever comes 2nd of the two Mercedes (in the ideal scenario) needs to back up the field for the front runner to run away.

3 place grid penalty for Gutierrez and Massa. No surprise.

Shame they can't give a penalty to Button for freqent asking penaltys for other drivers.

Impressive qualifying for VdG today. Seems to have largely gone unnoticed.

Impossible to back up the field with 2 drs zones. I think Raikkonen will win it.

I agree, especially while using less updates then Pic.

Spain is looking like a great track for Dutch drivers. Frijns & VDG did great today. Giedo also won here last year.

Pic had the new front wing and says they haven't got it working yet. Still, a good job by Giedo!

What do you/he mean with 'haven't got it working yet'? Do you mean it's worse then the other front wing? Or do you mean it's better then the other front wing, but not as good what they expected.

"We’ve put a few new parts on the car and have tried several setup options to get the most out of them and find a balance I can use, but it hasn’t worked yet."

McLaren did not run their new front wing today because they hadn't had it scrutineered.

I wonder if that was intentional by McLaren or a they pulled a Sam Michael (meaning a fuck up).

Basically McLaren was not able to test it on the FIA scrutineering rig and thus could not be 100% sure it would pass post qualifying

A bit of a screw up...

Well it has been 4 years since Mosley made him stand down and there's a different FIA President now. So there's nothing stopping him returning to his original role. I'm pretty sure he'd prefer to see his team fighting for wins rather than being a constant laughing stock.

Who says it is his choice to make?

In my line of work (and most others I know), if you do a bad job you get fired.

McLaren's flaws are being woefully exploited this year, and it's been coming. Lewis was shafted from all angles last year yet still managed to win four races and mount a sort of title challenge. Jenson won three races but was largely anonymous across the rest of the season. He had two brilliant races, but that was it.

Aside from the back end of 2011, Jenson's not been as good as Lewis. Even in Lewis's annus horribilis, they tied with three wins apiece.

In a very competitive field, we have a situation where McLaren probably has the weakest line up in the top five. The car probably isn't very good, but there's the question of what would Lewis do in it? At times last season Button was nowhere and Lewis was still up front. Against an Alonso-Ferrari, Vettel-Red Bull and Raikkonen-Lotus combo, would you back Button-McLaren over 19 races? I know I wouldn't.

It's obviously more than the drivers, but even so there's fundamental flaws in that team somewhere.

And how is that any different to 2012? In fact I'd go as far as saying that was worse for the team as arguably they should have won the title or at the very least been a lot closer to Vettel and RBR in the standings.
