Bad race. Good winner, but no rain and large gaps between the top 4. Hardly stayed awake.
Great job from Max though, hopefully that'll cheer him up after a few bad races

Still, this championship is far from over. Seemingly Mercedes have the 3rd fastest car now so a couple of 1-2s from Ferrari and 3-4s from Red Bull and Vettel is right back in it

And you just know the reliability pendulum will swing back to Mercedes, they're due an engine swap or back of the grid race themselves too, and you just know it'll be at a track harder to overtake on than here.

Good job from Vettel though, he remained calm and didn't make any rash moves, just got by when it was safe and not potentially championship ruining.

So yeah, easy 1-2 for Ferrari thrown away, but the car speed they showed this weekend must give them massive confidence for the rest of the season.
Mercedes, meanwhile, are nowhere and don't even understand why they're so slow either, which is the big concern.
Sure, they can plant it on pole but they don't hand out championships on Saturdays.

Also LOL At Palmer and Stroll justifying every single joke made about them in this race.
Palmer doing a Massa and spinning away all on his own, then deciding one spin wasn't enough and deciding rotating his car was better than sucking Magnussen's balls again

And Stroll, well,...just Strloll

He started last and finished fourth. 8O
Mostly overtaking cars much slower than him. He stalled behind Alonso for a period and then neither of his attempts on Bottas or Riccardo were successful. I'm not saying he can't overtake, but when the car was more evenly matched to his he didn't make the progress some of the other top drivers might have made

How long are you following F1? How hard/easy is it these days to pass a car in front of you that is not 2 seconds a lap slower? How long was Vettel stuck behind Bottas (as in, how much time did he have to make a move)? How many failed attempts did he have on Ricciardo, before some reason yet unknown to me made him to sudddenly slow down and giving him no extra chances? You think passing a car in F1 is just open up DRS, hit that secret 9th gear, switch on jet mode and go around him before he even notices you appeared in his rear mirrors?

Since the mid 90s thanks, you?

I'm not saying it should be easy, and to be fair he ended up using pit strategy to get past Bottas, and some issue (probably tyres) did mean he only got 1 go on Riccardo, however the attempts he made on both Bottas and Riccardo were half-hearted attempts which were never going to work unless the other car jumped out his way.

There are only six really competitive cars. One doesn't start. Another one is your own car. One was passed in the pits. Overtaking one of four cars, and the slowest of all, and in the pits, doen't looks to me as a "great" performance, and finally crash after the end...

Vettel is an extraordinary driver but today he did nothing remarkable.

Malaysia is now probably the only track where there's been a crash before and after the actual race.

You'll have to remind me, when was there a crash before the race? I can only think of Schumi at China in 2004 or 2005.

To be fair, Lewis got a lot of this after Spa 16, so at least the bitching is consistent to both sides :D

If you start at the back and end up pulling a top 10, that's a good day no matter what the naysaysers believe

It's only fair that there was no punishment given to Stroll in his incident with Vettel. I mean it's not as if Seb blindly pulled into the path of another car and caused an accident during the previous race, now is it?

I love that on twitter some people actually blamed Vettel for this

People are retarded

By causing few crashes you get a reputation that any crash you are involved is your fault. I recall Finnish commentators first commenting "who else but Sato" after Austria 2002 before seeing replays.

Today's incident was Stroll's fault, and after the race Seb complained it was unnecessary. Yet just two weeks ago... :whistling:

Well after looking at Seb's onboard, Seb wasn't watching Stroll either. If he was paying attention to him he would have seen him moving over, Seb just didn't react at all. But bonehead from Stroll from going from the inside to the outside mid corner. Fault is 60/40 Strolls' way I'd say. Vettel was after all trying to pass someone around the outside of a turn on a line you would take if trying to overtake in the race.

TBH, we see drivers take strange lines each weekend on the cool down lap.

Stroll didnt expect Vettel there and probably was looking in another direction and maybe tried to pick up some extra rubber and Vettel expected Stroll to notice him when he passed him.

Seeing the incident and knowing how they normally drive on that lap I'm actually surprised it doesnt happen more often.

It's idiotic that neither Vettel or Stroll received a penalty.
