As much as I'd hate to see him go, I hope he doesn't humiliate himself by picking a backfield team in a desperate move to at least stay in F1. Not that Alpine is a backfield team, but it's not going to be a success either.

is too bad to see Danny going like this, he's one of those world champion material that couldn't make it

Apparently there is some rumbling of him joining Haas.

So, if true, seems like no-one wants to join Alpine and/or partner Ocon.

Not sure whether it is Dan who doesn't Alpine or the very opposite. He probably is still an expensive driver while his relationship with the team has some scars.

But whats Alpine's alternative? Lure Rosberg out of retirement? Raikonen? Convince Vettel to not retire?

With the market as it is now they can pick an expensive and scarred Danny, a big last name with mediocre performance (Mick), a bag of money (latiffi), someone who hasnt raced in almost a year (hulkenberg) or a rookie.

Doohan is doing well in F2, they could take a punt on him and he'd be number 2 to Ocon without much of a fuss.

Or: the dozens of F1-thirsty decent drivers in literally any series in the world. It's crazy to even consider that driving for Alpine or sharing a garage with the bland, generic Ocon would put a driver off F1. All because some hot-head beginner with a contract made a snarky tweet.

Alpine is in a strong position. They're competing for the 4th spot in the F1 world's constructor's title.

Or Piastri does have a contract that is rock solid, even if he doesn´t want to.

Piastri to be announced at McLaren in 3... 2... 1...

[Patriotic Fanboy] They should go for DRUGOOOOOO [/Patriotic Fanboy]

An expensive longshot as Ricciardo x A big lastname which isn't great but works his ass off and still brings sponsors isn't a no brainer IMO.

Logan Sargeant is running on the outside, plus the american factor could mean a small push from Liberty

well, Bernie would push Sargeant through the ranks

Not sure Dan will be that expensive; since Zak is still paying his salary for next year he could take a 1 year deal for less money, with an option to renew for more based on performance clauses.

It would be a travesty if Dan isn't on grid for next year but Stroll and Latiffi are. But then the F1 boss has just come out again and said again that they don't need any more teams.

My deep down watch the sport burn desire is that something catastrophic happens to Mercedes, Williams, Hass, Alpine, Red Bull and Alfa Tauri and they all pull out at once ala Honda, Toyota and BMW in 2009, and because suddenly there is a glut of teams up for sale that only Mercedes, Red Bull and Alpine get snapped up, thus driving down the value of the rest of "franchises".

I think there is still the lingering smell of Caterham, Virgin and HRT hanging around the paddock, and F1 being so insular and up its own arse that it is associating Andretti's team with those teams plus the shambolic USA F1 bid.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

As a hardcore fan who used to religiously watch every single session back in the day, I have little interest for practice nowadays.

They're dull, even more on tracks that aren't nice-looking anymore. People also crash less often due to tarmac run-off, budget/tyre caps (and no T-car), off-track simulation time, and generally the cars and drivers being more reliable. Less practice also spices up the order occasionally when some top dog doesn't find the solution and teams have zero info on weather and tyre wear. Those are often the best races.

I can understand some people like them, and when on site it's a great time to enjoy walking around the track, but there are bigger hills to die on for "F1 fans" currently than defending practice/attacking sprint races. Namely, the number of teams and seats on the grid.

I remember in the late 90's I could only watch qualy and race on TV, so a friend of mine who had satellite recorded the free practices on video and I would watch them in the week after the race. Yes, I was so obsessed with F1 that I used to watch FP after the race.

I stopped doing that because I grew up, not because they became less interesting.

I watch Friday practice because I work from home and work is slow.

I am not interested in farcical sprint races.

Now more teams, that’s what I want. And races and good traditional tracks like spa. But guess what the fia wants……

And to add to that: as a kid me and my dad went to Friday practices because those tickets were cheaper and we could afford that. Saturday and definitely Sunday were so far out of budget, but Friday was doable. The Belgian GP was always in August so no school for me. I did not give a single damn if those cars were doing anything useful, for points or anything. I got to see and hear the cars in real life!!! That's how I became a fan and stayed a fan.
