No practices on BBC, then probably half of the qualifying and races.

According to Adam Cooper, the highlights of the other races could be with "as-live" commentary, which benefits countries that broadcast the BBC coverage.

2006 was the last season the races were shown live in Finland. And F1 isn't the only sufferer. No FTA channel shows WRC or MotoGP here. Actually there hasn't been any live motorsport in TV for years.
Subsequently dropped the rate of viewers. In 2003 a F1 race would normally have more than 1 million viewers and ever reaching near 2 million viewers, thus being one of the most watched "tv shows" in Finland. Nowadays free "delayed highlights" gets about 150 000 viewers and perhaps other 100 000 people watch it live, and pay for it as I do.

So for the sake of fans, I hope BBC keeps its coverage untouched.

It's not better in France ... We have only F1 and Moto GP on FTA. And F1 in 2013 maybe will be on pay TV in France. :/

That's quite similar to here. F1 has been on pay TV since 2007 and there's no motorsport on FTA, apart from the power stages of the rally of Portugal.

In the 2006 football world cup (the only event i can find stats for), an FTA channel averaged 1.6 million viewers. SportTV, 13 thousand. I assume the stats for F1 are similar, considering there aren't even any highlights on FTA.

So what exactly are the BBC showing?

All FPs, All Quali's and 1/2 the races? Or 1/2 of everything?

The latter. They are showing the practices, qualifying sessions and races for 10 events - effectively what we've got now but for 10 races instead of 20. For the rest of the season, it'll just be "extensive" highlights

Not the news you want to hear when you wake, but alas, that's life.

I don't believe they will be showing practice for the 10 races they will cover.

I think it will just be live qualifying/race for those 10 races with practice + any extras (OnBoard channel, driver tracker etc...) a sky exclusive for every race.

Nope, practice definitely on the BBC as well:

BBC Sport will broadcast half the races live, as well as the qualifying and practice sessions from those races.

I actually went to Tobermory where it's filmed. Although I had no idea such a programme existed at the time. :p

I have Sky at my parents house but not sure if I can afford it myself at my new place. Guess it will be lots of Sunday lunches with the parents. Hum.

I'm expecting to see Tony Jardine on Sky F1 next year - they always rope him in on Sky News when there's something F1 related (such as the Bahrain issue).

But £900m on the move to Salford? What a joke.

Because the northerners were moaning. London's too far away, they have the same moan about Wembley.

Well, a lot of the BBC Breakfast team aren't.

Love the fact that the BBC will be broadcasting the race live for the viewers in Australia, for example, where the commentary gets sent to, but won't be shown in England live  :(

Yeah. How dare the BBC be based in the capital of the country, where a sixth of the population lives.

Why not split it? Half at Salford and half in London.

Only thing northerners are good at is moaning.

Moving Grange Hill up north killed it, plenty of shows will follow suit. Question Of Sport is getting poorer guests now because the bigger stars don't want to go to a shithole like Salford.

Shit weather, shit food, shit community, and planes falling out of the sky.

The sheer amount of opposition to it within the BBC itself is amazing.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

My thoughts: A completely commercially driven deal and a shame for F1 fans.

The tendency for fans watching a sporting event that is on Pay TV is to go off to the local pub and watch it on the big screen.... which is why I hope the races in Asia/Australia will be on the BBC as no pubs will be open at 5am.

Its a shame that the BBC also value Tennis and Golf more than F1 - those events (Wimbledon & The Open) are only short and last a couple of weeks, but they dont bring in half the viewers that one of the prime Grand Prixs such as Canada & USA will bring.

Ive also heard that Tony Jardine and John Watson will be favourites to lead the commentating, and there will be NO adverts during Sky's coverage. I was hoping the BBC and Sky would save and broadcast the same audio, but then again, I dont think DC's mono-tonal dull voice that cant pronounce half the driver's names would be wanted by Sky.

I blame the Tories and all their bloody cuts

Nought to do with the cuts really, it's all down to the pointless and overly expensive move to Salford.
