This new deal will save them £16m/year

So they're saving a third, yet showing half. I'm not trained in business or economics, but that doesn't sound like a great deal to me.

Someone got raped there :tumble:

The BBC hires dribbling retards in Accounts, what else is new?

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Does anyone in France or elsewhere know how many races are shown on TF1? I can pick it up here and so I might be able to get away with some FTA F1 next year if it isn't on BBC that weekend?

According to Wiki, TF1 does all the races live.

Tony Fernandes has tweeted to say that Whitmarsh thinks the BBC/Sky deal breaches the Concorde Agreement.

In that case, wouldn't every case of countries broadcasting F1 on pay channels be breaching the Agreement?

Comment #45 has been replied to by James Allen with an interesting bit of info... we might end up being alright to watch all races online on BBC... hopefully he's correct!

It's a PR thing, though. There's a certain element of the population (may be a stereotype but I get the impression that they tend to be Daily Mail readers) that's been baying F1's blood ever since the BBC got the deal. It just so happens that that area of the audience is one that the BBC wants to attract. This appeases them

I think people are overreacting a tad. I'm not happy either but some of the reactions I've seen on various forums have been truly hysterical - "this will ruin my life", "this is one of the most tragic days for the sport", "F1 was supposed to be a sport for the people" (I mean what?). It's only F1, for god's sake - no one's died

My gut feeling is Sky's coverage will actually be good, as they're now going to have to compete with the BBC for half the races. The one thing I am concerned about is the BBC's coverage, as there's talk they will scale back further and they've already started to focus more on the teams at the front. As with Eurosport back in the day, Sky could well become the coverage of choice for the hardcore fan. Yes, it's still Sky, which is frustrating, but let's just wait and see, and not jump to conclusions

Hopefully BBC get the best races. If Sky are going to get Barcelona, Valencia, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain exclusive, I can live without that

What they haven't said is who will get the season opener. Hopefully BBC, you'd think. I'd be fairly sure that the 'classic' races (i.e. Monza, Suzuka) would go to BBC. It's not certain who is the 'primary' broadcaster, if you like.

I expect BBC to skip the fly away races. Unfortunately I think that'll include Canada and yet they'll go to Spain :(

BBC's already got Monaco, Silverstone and the final race. Sky's bound to have another classic race like Monza or Germany, they won't get all the shitty races surely.

Sky showing all races, BBC half. I'd call Sky the primary broadcaster.

And yes Gareth, I'd expect so to. If they end up going to the flyaway races and skip European ones, you'd have to question their budget saving methods

Well considering they're going to pay two thirds to show half the races guess we shouldn't put it past them

I'd be surprised if the BBC skip Canada. They know it's one of the best races and it's also primetime, with some of the biggest viewing figures. Same goes for the USA and Brazil

There are 8 European races on the calendar next year. Drop Valencia or Spain and then add in the 3 North American races. That's probably what it'll be - either that or they'll drop another European race and add Singapore or Abu Dhabi. Sky get the honour of getting the first race

So what exactly are the BBC showing?

All FPs, All Quali's and 1/2 the races? Or 1/2 of everything?

I imagine for the races the BBC show live it'll still be just Qualy and Race.

Sky will still show Practice, qualy, maybe support races and the race side by side with those races.
