The pink Mercedes is illegal, but the brake ducts can still be used anyway.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Lol that's fucking ridiculous. Docked 15 constructors points... they've probably made that up already by running an illegal car. They should be docked points every race they continue to use those brake ducts.

Between this and Ferrari last year it's become clear that the 'rules' are more just a set of guidelines.

In hindsight, it was a mistake for Renault to commit to staying in F1 so quickly in the spring.

Still, until the new Concerde Agreement has been signed, they aren't legally committed to anything, so...

What a complete mess that ruling is. That has just made the whole situation even worse.

I haven't read the ruling but how on Earth did they come up with 7.5 points per car? They only scored 14 points that race....and then reprimand them from running an illegal car? and then let them continue running said illegal car without having to redesign the illegal parts??WTF??

Apparently the FIA's rationale is that they aren't breaking the technical regulations, so they've only been punished for breaking the sporting regulations (ie. copying the part). Seems there needs to be a new rule along the lines of 'any part acquired illegally, even if it's legal, will be treated as illegal'

I'm just speechless with that ruling.

Should have docked all points, massive fine and force to run the 2019 car again until new one is build.

Racing Point have been exposed as total liars. They stated that they designed everything because they took great photos and had great designers....turns out they had the CAD drawings from Merc all along.

And made it to look like they were drawn from scratch. That's how they conned the FIA.

The car's illegal, the FIA let them keep running it and the points and fine are small. Basically a slap on the wrist.

BAR got a worse punishment for using fuel as ballast.

Taking stuff that somebody else made and producing drawings to suggest that you were the designer, is it?

Maybe Jean Todt is far more sinister than anyone ever thought. :o

I mean, he's married to Michelle Yeoh. Had such a crush on her back in the day.

The points they lost can be recovered with some other stellar performances. And probably they'll finish the season ahead of Renault anyway. And there is still Mercedes getting away with no punishment in something they surely have their share of responsibility.

Feels like FIA acknowledges there is something wrong but is afraid of giving an adequate punishment. Perhaps because this would make teams more inclined to leave the sport... I don't know. It feels no different than the agreement made with Ferrari.

What a shitshow.

Mercedes seem to be in the clear because they gave the CAD drawings to RP last year when it was still legal to do so. Buxton explained it on Twitter -

Renault might be beaten to the punch on this one.
