Anyone reckon this race was better than Suzuka 2005? Everyone talks about that as an amazing race, but I felt this one was far more exciting from start to finish

Yep, tbh I never rated Suzuka 05 that much.... was a delayed telecast here that clashed with one of the very first A1GP races live.... the A1GP races shat all over the F1 in terms of action

Luca's not too pleased with his teams plight

Quote:
“This cannot and must not be the team’s level,” Montezemolo told Ferrari's official website. “It’s a very delicate moment. I expect our engineers to act with determination and know-how, unleashing the maximum of their capacity to improve the performance of the car in a short time. I want Ferrari to be at the level that both we and our fans demand it should be.”

But Suzuka had that fantastic overtake - it was now or never for Kimi

I actually thought that Suzuka 05 was pretty average until 5 laps from the end until you realised that Alonso and Kimi may just catch Fisi. It's what I talked about in the race rating thread. It might have had a higher max entertainment point, but I found the rest of a race a slight lull.

I think a lot of the 'Classic races' have a lot to do with the atmosphere/one part of the race. Suzuka 2005 had some great moves, but some of it was boring. Spa 2008. Boring 40 laps, intense final 4. Brazil 2008, with the atmosphere with what was going on it was unbearable. The actual racing was pretty average. Last Sunday's race was amazing throughout

Suzuka 2005 was a one race in a season that had a ridiculous amount of horrible races. So it actually stood out.

Brazil 2008 always had that suspense feeling, because it was the end of the season. That, plus the atmosphere that you get there, made an awesome race.

it depends also a lot whether there is a championship at stake... an exciting race towards the end of the season is always much more exciting compared to the same race in the beginning of the season. And if for example this race would have been the last race, and the championship would already be decided, for me it would never be as exciting as it was last weekend...

And for some people it also depends a lot who wins the race eventually... You can have the exact same race, but with Alonso being the winner, there would be less enthusiasm...

There is something quite special about a battle for the lead that close to the end of the race. I think China was quite clear with 5 or 6 laps to go that Vettel was going to be passed. Whereas Suzuka I didn't actually expect Kimi to get by. Both were 10/10 races though. Maybe 9.5 if a better race happens (which it easily could this year!). :p

The mind boggles. Seriously it does. When you have performances of the like of Webber, Hamilton, Vettel, Button, Rosberg and Massa, all of which could have been winners the vote has to go to the guy that finished 8th and never challenged the leaders. LOL fanboys rule

I voted for Webber. I wrote him off for any kind of result after seeing him fall back behind Barrichello early on, so his performance and finish was utterly superb.

Hell, by those standards even Imola 2005 is at least as good as Suzuka. There was no pass, but you could not tell the winner until the very last corner. Last laps had more suspense than last sunday.

Well we've had Malaysia & China give us two cracking races. I'm thinking Canada is going to be a lolfest.

Whilst I would go as far as to drop down to the opposite end of the scale, if a "story" is on, and you want that story to happen, and it goes wrong right at the end, I think it can knock the enjoyment and the stuffing out of it.

Take Vettel winning at Monza in 08. Didn't you just want to smile after that? It wasn't a brilliantly exciting race, but it made you feel good.

The 2009 Open was actually very entertaining on the last day and yet 99.9% of people felt miserable after it. It's not that we were against Stewart Cink, it's almost everyone was for Tom Watson.

For instance, had Hamilton caught Massa and denied him the win, I think a lot of people would rather the race had one less overtake.

yeah, we need to be able to see who voted what IMO. I've seen this on other forums so it's possible. No real motorsport fan could rate this race lower than 7.
